LOL!
Ed Huble has a gun (maybe more) for those - the .577 Tyrannosaurus is rather weak kneed to some of Ed's Stuff. Think in the 20,000FPE range for the really big ones. Of course, numbers are only numbers and formulae used to expand numbers are for accountants. If you're going to hit something, hit hard with something big. Small bores are, well, small bores.

The 20 bore (.615") was deemed too small for really big animals in India mid 1800's - that is why big bore rifles were developed. They started at 16 bore and leveled at 14 bore as the most popular for 'lighter big game', but would suffice for the big stuff.

For dinos - explosive 'shells' in 8 to 4 gauge might come in handy - thank you Lt. James Forsyth, for your teachings.

PSSST - I personally think this is where Elmer got his early schooling

Only a week ago I was asked, "WTF will a 470 Nitro be for?", and my reply was; "it'll possibly be a bit light for t-Rex, but I'd feel comfortable with it for anything else."

The response was somewhere between shock and disdain....... Oh how I Lolled and now.....

Well a modern Dino rifle is probably one of these.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrett_M82

However dinosaurs are not modern so I think the rifles for hunting them don't have to be either.
So I present the 2 bore.
3500 grain ball.
The likelihood of actually firing this ball at the velocity of 1600 FPS and living to tell about it is about the same as finding a T-Rex to hunt with that load.

A gun digest from several years ago included a 2 bore built on a falling block action used for whale cannons.

There's video around of the gunsmith shooting it. Looks like a pussy cat until you realise that the gunsmith stands about 6' 4" and weighs near 250lb. Giles Whittome I think it was.

An interesting exercise and all, but........!

I watched the movie yesterday and noted the hero carrying a Marlin SBL 45/70. Great marketing by Marlin, but I'd stick with my 470 and solids.

Of course, my response above is for the gentlemanly sport of dinosaur hunting, if culling, it would be a good old 50 cal with armour piercing incendiary

Yes I noted that too. I guess that is some in-film advertising that will never need to be proved and put to the test. But it might prove useful for all the old net trolls who used to ask endlessly on AR "Is a .45/70 guide gun the best gun for cape buffalo?" with new up to date keyboard fodder!
