Hey guys,

I think it's Daryl who likes these..

Thinking of picking one up, anyone use one? Thoughts on them?
Ballistics? I think theyre fairly modest, like 200gr @ 2000fps?

Just for something to use with open sights, not bother scoping.

If anyones got one, pics?

Cheers,
Ash.

Here's the 1978 Big Bore 94 that I had. foolishly sold it at a local gun show a few years ago. Got $600.00 with dies and some brass, mostly made from .30/30 brass.
Note the rear sight filing I did. I also used an ivory bead for the front sight.
This rifle would hold about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4" for 5 consecutive shots off the bags at 100meters. It did not spread the shots as the barrel heats up, as I've heard 94's are prone to do. High polish on the barrel and action - nice, 'handy' little rifle.
The only game mine collected was 2 moose. One took 1 shot, the other, 2 as my first on him hit the hip and smashed that big bone, but went no further. He was looking at me over his back, not facing me as I'd initially thought. He took 4 steps after the second shot angled up from the left side through the diphram, then left lung and right lung and stopped in the front muscle of his right front leg.

You can drive them faster if you want. Moose are not small animals and it's plain to see why the .38/55 at 1,350fps worked so well. This little round is impressive.

The first moose gave me only a shoulder shot, so I took it. The bullet just missed the on-side leg bone, holed both lungs, then a rib, then through the off side leg bone and stopped against the hide. This moose took off like a racehorse out of the gate, and dropped stone dead in 1 1/2 strides. Impressive. Both 220gr. Hornady's looked exactly the same, expanded back to the cannelure, nice mushroom and that was it. Both lost less than 25gr. weight.

"THE LOAD" 220gr. Hornady FN which was designed for this ctg. 42gr. H335 for a softball load at 1,940fps MV. Crimped, of course.

Thanks Daryl, i see you made the sight more of an express style.

The one i'm looking at is a 94BB XTR (they mostly seem to be XTR?). If i've read correct, this just means they had better polishing and checkering than the run of the mill ones?

I'm also a tad curious about the sling mounting positions? Yours is right at the end of the barrel. There are 2 currently for sale online in Aus.

Both have the slings in different spots, which are different to yours?

2nd pic is the one i'm thinking of getting, i've asked for more photos, i'm hoping it looks washed out from the flash, but if the finish is very worn i'll pass on it. It's listed as "very good"

Mine is the top eject - 1st lot of them - high polish and some figure in the butt stock.

I mounted the sling swivel near the end of the magazine tube as I preferred the longer loop in the sling. The rifle hung nice and low on my back and did not interfer with branches, etc.

Daryl, I take from your descriptions, the rear sight on your M46 Husky was filed in the same manner?

Yes- same type of modification. I did not cut either more deeply - just opened up the top to get rid of that awful fuzziness my eyes produce.

Those are not the only guns I have this sort of sight.

For those people who have difficulty with ALL open sights but do not want to use a scope, this sort of sight is also quite good. The besd in the middle, is the front sight. The rear sight fits the normal dovetail, but is used as a peep sight. Other rifles in History used this sort of sight- ie: a buckhorn sight.

This rear buckhorn sight, used as a peep sight with a silver blade front sight, is a copy from an original Hawken.

I run an Angle Eject 94 in 356. I have placed a Lyman Peep sight on it. Bloody fantastic rifle for thick bush and capable out past 200mts, well it was when my eyes were a bit younger.

You wont find the 375Win wanting.
