Savage Model 14 Classic in 250 Savage
      #239187 - 12/12/13 04:28 PM

Here is the new baby. A Savage Model 14 classic in 250 Savage.

It is the latest rendition of Savages actions with bottom bolt release. Usual features include the floating bolt head which is supposed to assist equal pressure on the lugs on lock up. Action is pillar bedded and barrel floated, straight from the factory. The accu-trigger comes with an adjustment tool and I have reduced it down to the minimum pressure (about 3lbs). For me, it is fine as a hunting trigger.

Feeding was flawless, and recoil barely noticeable as the stock is designed for scope use.

My 30mm tube Zeiss with 42mm front lens is sitting a bit high on medium rings and I have ordered low rings. If the scope does not foul the bolt handle with low rings, then they will make it a very compact package. Cheek weld atm is adequate with the med. rings.

One feature I like is the detachable magazine. It has a large front release lever which is easy to grab. Feeding is staggered until the round reaches the top and then it is in-line. One of the features I have admired in Weatherby rifles.

I broke in the barrel and sighted the scope with handloads of Nosler 85 grain BT's over 36.0 grains of 2208 (Varget). OAL was 2.560". There is plenty of space to seat out projectiles too. A round dropped in from the top sits perfectly square when single feeding.

I haven't played with any other loads but a three shot group at 100 yards with a hot barrel went 1.245".

Next, I will be play around with seating depth and loads for the Nosler 100 BT Hunting projjie.

Greg,

It will be perfect for spotlighting (or lamping as Bumnut calls it) ferals from the truck and walking up goats and pigs. Since selling my 9.3x62, this is my Medium calibre rifle.

I have no doubt it will get used to head shoot camels on my next culling trip.
