F.W.Heym SR40 5.6x50 Magnum
      #217578 - 04/10/12 10:18 AM

I have recently purchased a left handed Heym bolt action Model SR40. It looks like a very nice rifle in very good condition, can't seem to find much info on Heym bolt action rifles. Will put up some photos when I have it at home. Does anyone have any experience with them?
Thankyou.

I picked up the rifle yesterday, was hoping someone might be able to tell me year of manufacture from the proof marks? Was lucky to get 63 rounds, 106 empty shells and a set of dies with the rifle.

Obviously made pre 1990 with this stamped on it.

Nice pick up. Was this rifle at Rebel's in Qld? Saw one like it advertised there a few years ago.

I thought about it at the time but already had several lefty small calibre rifles.

I don't know for sure but i think that it was likely made in 70's. You could write to Heym and ask them.

"ID" is the year of proof. On request of a maker the numbers 0-9 may be replaced by the letters A-K (J not used), so ID translates to 1983.

Thankyou fellas, got an email back from Heym USA last week, the bloke there said april 1983. Not sure about Rebel's JFE? bought it from Inverell, northern New South Wales. Was on used guns. Have always wanted a 5.6x50 Magnum, as a kid had a magazine that had European calibres and liked the sound of it. Don't have anything in the 22's, other than a ZKW 465 Hornet. Foxes and roos a little bit too smart for the hornet now. Do all my shooting, of late every night with a 204 Ruger, but like the idea of something a bit different. Hence the 204, everyone has a 222, 223, etc. Just bought a Zoli 6mm Remington as well for a little more firpower.
