I have had several Steyr Model M Professionals and MIII Professionals and they have all been matte blue finish or parkerized. I am in the process of buying a .270 MIII in matte stainless. When did they make a stainless version?

Pacecars pardon my ignorance but what is the Steyr Model M. I have a Prohunter and know the SSG.

.30'06 length rearlocker of similar vintage (late 60's - early 70's design) to the SSG 69
Sorry pacecars, no idea about a stainless, only seen the parkerised & blued version

It is the forerunner of the SBS. It is similar to the SSG except as Dr. Deer said it is a standard length action. The Professional model has the Cycolac stock in either green, brown or black

Well the stainless finish is new to me, interesting. Then again given they make the SBS in stainless it fits they would have made earlier models in stainless.
On a slight tangent, wasn't the "professional" also available with a laminate monte carlo stock? I hunted with a bloke who had a Model L (.308) with a laminate stock over a decade ago and thought it was a "Steyr Model L professional"

I have talked to a few people on other boards and this may be an after market finish of some type. Don't know if it was done by GSI or an individual. I will hopefully be able to find out something from GSI themselves.
The laminated stock version is the Jagdmatch which was basically a semi-sporter vesion of the SSG with the longer receiver. It came in theL size and I think SL also. Always wanted one of those in .243

Talked to GSI today and they never had a stainlesss or silver coated Model M of any kind. it has to be some kind of aftermarket finish. I will find out when it arrives I guess

Painted the stock to see how it would look:

Hmm, I think you need to cerokote (paint) the barrel & action as well now...
Any more info on just what silver finish has been applied now you've got the rifle in hand?

I still don't know for sure but all of the internals are coated and the barrels interior. The gun cleans very easily with just a couple patches down the barrel. The action seemd to be smoother than the last MIII I had. Here are a few closeups I took, notice the slight discoloration at the rear of the receiver and also the ejection port even though that pic didn't come out too good:

I do believe I will hang on to this one. The first range session with cheap Winchester 130gr Power Points turned in some rather impressive groups. The first group measured .30, the second group was .73 and the last group was .24 at 100 yards. I haven't totally decided on the stock color yet and may rpaint it in an olive with silver and white spider webs. I am also looking into having a wood or lainate wood stock made using the original stock as a pattern. This one is definately a keeper. I will also probably change out the scope for a Leupold FXIII 6x42 at some point. I just wish it were a 7x64 but .270s have always been good to me.

pacecars looking at the photo of the bolt head it looks like the rifle has already been coated. Could it be a TIN or Cerakoted or similar already?
