Nice piece of wood.
Interesting engraving - what do they call it ?
Is that a new style of engraving as I thought they only had plain and game scene ?
Anyway, well done.

Yes, it seems to be new. They call it simple english arabesque I think. The basic engraving is called simple scroll.
It's not actually engraved, it's just a laser pattern, but I like it.
I was surprised at the niceness of the wood too. I think it's class four, out of eleven. It gets to be silly money as you get towards the top end of those numbers.

Yes, the engraving is quite nice.
I have a 375H&H with High end wood on it. The 470 has normal wood which is still quite nice.

It's regulated for the Norma Vulcan 232gr, and since the warranty doesn't allow me to reload, I will only ever use the Norma stuff, at $120 a box..... yeah right.
We have the second ever Tasmanian BGRC shoot this Saturday, so that will be it's public debut. I'll be out on my private range (the bottom paddock) tomorrow, of course.

Hi 9dot3x74R
Finally the big day has arrived, looks lovely and a good choice of timber upgrade. Did you get the mounts done already?? I thought that you were going to speak to Alex?? what was the final $$ outcome but whatever it was you have a real Gem.
Cheers,
Jeff Gray

I'm seeing Alex on Saturday, we're driving down to Hobart with Barry for the BGRC event, so I'll talk to him about the mounts then. I'm exchanging emails with Graeme too, so together we should be able to work out what to order... I'm guessing Merkel has changed a couple of dimensions so that you can only order the rings through them.... but we'll see.
UPDATE: After sending several measurements to Graeme, we now have a set of Recknagel rings ordered, and hopefully on their way to me soon.

9dot3,
You're going to have fun with that rifle. Looks great.
Regulated for the 232 gr Vulcan bullet? What a stupid bullet weight to regulate 9.3x74Rs for.

Agreed.
I'm hoping I can make some Woodleighs regulate ok... starting tomorrow.
I shot a few "cleaning" rounds today, each one followed by a thorough bore clean. It's certainly a pleasant rifle to shoot. The set trigger is very very light, I'd guess less than 2lb (not that I'm good at guessing). The rear trigger seems very heavy by comparison.

I also agree, Chapuis regulated mine for 260gn but was still the same POI with the 300gn thankfully.

A friend shot my 9.3mm and does not like recoil a lot. After shooting it, he was quite interested in a double 9.3mm himself.
A mild recoiling no nonsense chambering.
What does the Merkel weigh btw?

What a georgeous rifle. Would you like to trade it for an Antonio Zoli sxs in 9.3? LOL Just kidding.
I saw in the photos the rifle came with a scope. What type of scope are you going to be using.
Can you also give me the exact info on make and model, stock upgrade, etc. of the rifle. I would like to look and see how much it would cost to have one shipped to Canada. Again, a beautiful peice. I think you will be happy with your choice.
Kindest regards,
Carpediem

Nice-looking rifle, Merkel. It has an attractive dark grain in the stock and the engraving looks less heavy-handed than on some I've seen. I only wish I could have afforded some engraving on my Heym but it would have been another $3000 and probably a year's wait. (The firearm-registration lot sent me a certificate saying I had the engraved Safari model but, sadly, I had to argue with them that I didn't and that I feared some overzealous official might stop me taking it into Africa if the paperwork wasn't right.)
I hope your rifle shoots as well for you as it looks. It should make a dandy sambar rifle among other things.

Very nice double for sure! You are going to enjoy that rifle! The Merkels certainly do represent good value. Have fun and please keep us posted with the hunts you do together.
