What were they shooting at ? this fellow seems to be relatively unperturbed by what just happened ?? proves the Browning must be a good action

When the barrel splits, it doesn't say that much about the action as all the power is vented out of the barrel / split.

That happened to me once as a kid hunting geese..crawled through the marsh..sneeking up on a flock..got within shooting range--stood up --geese got up..fired my trusty 12 gauge single shot..boom..barrel split back about 3 inches from the end of the barrel...took it home..sawed it off and used it for a snowmobile shotgun for coyotes after that--served me well for many years...

Billy no fear at work there, if that was me I wouldn't touch a gun for a while and only touch them after making sure nothing is in the barrel.
