The top mark is similar to the Hungarian proof for unfinished tubes which was a temporary and voluntary proof in the white. But I think it was a Roman numberal "I" instead of a "T". What is the origin of the rifle?

Kind Regards,

If its hungarian it could be a hammer not the letter T.

The rifle is a Westley Richards '97 takedown.
The pics are of the 450 barrel, but it also has a barrel and forend chambered in 6mm Musgrave too.
I think the mark looks like springbok horns.

Is the mark on both tubes? Are their any other odd marks? Info on Hungarian proofmarks from Budapest is sketchy after 1971 but I know there were some major changes in 2004, something to the effect that every 5 years a gun owning citizen has to submit there arms for reproof at their own expense. But I'm not sure of the exact current stamp for provisional proof. After the mid to late 1800s, tube production really fell off around London and in Birmingham say after WWI. I would say Westley sourced the tubes from Hungary, FEG mabye, and the mark is the horns of the red stag from Hungary. If the "T" were a "I", I would be sure of it, but then again the new mark may be a "T" for temporary or a hammer.

How do you fancy the 6mm Musgrave?

Kind Regards,

Haven't shot it yet, but I am sure it will be sweet.
The mark is not on the 6mm barrel, but is also stamped on the left sde of the action.
The 6mm barrel does have the London proofs like the 450 barrel.
I don't think Westley had much to do with the barrels - this looks like a new build on an old action.

The previous owner says the rifle was built in South Africa and he bought it in England.
Does anybody know if Ben Musgrave has his own mark?
