Romanian M1969 .22 Trainer Redo

Here's my Rom M69.

This is a $50 .22 that is a diamond in the rough. Nice trigger, action and very accurate.

A couple weeks ago I finished it up.

I filed off the deep tool marks that were all over the barrel, action, etc and had the bbl'd action reblued. I reshaped the stock to remove finger grooves and added the Schnabel fore stock tip and then bedded the barrel in Acraglas Gel, and also installed QD sling swivel studs. Added a Leupold 2-7X scope with a Redfield Marlin 336 base mounted backwards {windage screws at the front} and Leupold rings.

Just to have on-hand, I'm still looking for spare mags and parts if they exist.

Looks like a great .22 to have around.

9.3,
Another like item. My rom M69 is one of my favorites. I have intended, if I had time, to do almost the same. This is a great full size practice rife. I use it to shoot offhand with open irons for off season cheap practice. It is accurate, and the three leaf rear sight is very much on with regular .22 velocity ammo. I use opens on several of my rifle for hunting. I believe I have told a few stories of that in the past.
Nice job on the .22. looks great.

9ThreeXFiftySeven,

There were some lovely rifles made in the East Bloc. I lived in Russia for a while and traveled in that part of the world a bit. Your TLC has really turned ELiza Dolittle into a princess.

Good hunting!

Thanks fellows.

Story goes like this...

I have a Ruger 10/22 I've had for years that is pretty beat up now, tho it has earned every nick and scratch and dent. Some few years ago I got this ugly duckling. I had the Leupold on the 10/22, but wanted a bolt .22 to help training my littlest kids for my shooting test. Basically I wanted a rifle with the same action type as the rifle they'd hunt with.

I looked at CZ's and really like them, and might pick up a CZ .22 at some point, but then this 1969 looked like another option. My son and I had used it on ground squirrels in original milsurp condition, but it was uglier than a stick in a mud fence and didn't have a scope or reasonable mounting system for such. Truth is, after the work done on it, it is about as good as a factory CZ .22 and the sum total expense not counting scope and mounts is $130, and that counting the bottle of Tung Oil and the Minwax stain for the stock!

I wish I'd have bought 4 or 5 of these things when they were a dime a dozen...

Here's a closer view of the action & scope mount.
