I've seen talk of the FP models and the Stevens, but not much about the sporting Savage models.

I have a Savage .223 with a bull barrel and the Accu-trigger.

IMO, the Accu-trigger is the best development to come out of the gun industry in decades. It just plumb works.

Granted, I am used to and like double pull military triggers, and that fact might bias me a bit, but if you like milsurps and even the Glock pistol, you will really like the Accu-trigger.

Many guns that are 3-inchers at 100m would be 1 1/2 inchers or better if they had a good trigger. Savage had a very accurate rifle to start with, and then the addition of a great trigger just made it all that much better.

My Savage was purchased for the protection of trees in a new plantation and I have shot something over 500 ground squirrels with it since I bought it. So far, 86 this month. I really like this rifle and it has made me think hard about a Savage w/ Accu-trigger in a bigger caliber.

I have been a Ruger fan for years, and when Ruger announced its new "Hawkeye" with a new "improved" trigger I had great hopes that they would copy or use some derivative of the A-trigger.

Alas, we were given the LC6, a no-improvement finger lever you need to stand on in order to make a Ruger go bang...

Everybody I know who owns a Savage with the Accu-Trigger loves it. My only Accu-Trigger rifle has been traded, but certainly not because of the trigger; I just didn't need it anymore. On the other hand, my pre-Accu-Trigger Savages are still with me. The Model 112 match rifle in 308 Win has an absolutely wonderful trigger, in my opinion better than any Accu-Trigger. My Model 110 hunting rifle in 30-06 has a good trigger, but not as nice as the Accu-Trigger. Any Savage Model 110 variant can be fitted with a Rifle-Basix drop-in trigger (http://www.riflebasix.com/savage.html) for $85, so triggers should not be an issue.

I agree. The Accu-Trigger does work as claimed, a refreshing change in an industry full of unwarranted hype. Dave

I have a Savage .223 with the accu-trigger, and I love the gun. It saves you $50 bucks on a trigger job!

One of the things that keeps popping up in my mind is the utility of the Accu-trigger on a Dangerous Game rifle. Many rifles in medium/large bore calibers {.375 H&H and up... .416 Taylor, Remington, Rigby, etc and even some of the biggies} possess extremely fine mechanical accuracy but wear fairly heavy triggers due to general concerns about nerves prematurely effecting the shot on DG.

"Thinking out loud", here...

Though most A-triggers are probably on varmint or light-caliber rifles, I think the A-trigger on a DG rifle makes a lot of sense. Sometimes a very finely placed shot is necessary under any and all hunting scenarios, and such a shot would be enhanced with a great trigger pull. By the same token, the stress of DG conditions would be met nicely with a trigger that warns the hunter of its presence before it goes "Bang". In fact, merely touching the safety lever on the A-trigger and holding ones finger there, coupled with a smooth complete drawthrough can result in a quite decent shot at close DG ranges, with no need to find the let-off point as when the trigger is normally used on a set up shot at distant game, etc. Good work can be done with this method and the Accu-trigger with just a very little practice.

Although not a comment on the Accutrigger, at one time I owned a Savage M110 variant (M116 I believe) in 458 Win Mag. Savage billed this gun as “controlled feed,” but the extractor was not a claw. In practice I found that if the action was operated briskly, the bullet would rise too high and snag on the top of the breech opening. If operated slower it fed perfectly. The gun went back to Savage twice, and the condition was never corrected. I would be worried about follow-up shots under stress. However, another rifle (or another DG caliber) might work wonderfully.

I have a 116 Weather Warrior in .375 H&H and it is a very accurate rifle... very accurate. Recoil traits are good and the Accutrigger seems to function very well. The rifle seems to be cheaply made but so far everything works perfectly (150 rounds - Not Much I admit). I think the bolt lift is heavy for fast repeat shots from the shoulder... and I have a 375 Ruger that I like better for that reason. But, for a rifle that I purchased for less than $600 with stainless finish, composite stock, Accutrigger, and standard open sights, I don't see how I could do any better. I wouldn't hesitate taking it into Grizzly country as my primary dangerous game rifle nor would I consider it inadequate for an African hunt.
