I like that rifle.

If that scope rail, is a piccatinny, that is completely a wrong design for such a rifle.

One of these in .303 or .275 Rimmed, would be nice.

How light is it? Might be a really nice mountain rifle..

I reckon people probably slammed the Ruger No.1 when it first came out as well. Because it wasn't exactly the same as a Farqhuarsson.

The design faults on this should be easy to correct. I would trim the grip back and fit a nice steel grip cap. That probably would require re-checkering the stock, but that would be no problem. I really don't see much of a problem coming up with a very nice rifle. It has good bones!

Just read an article in SHOOTING TIMES magazine on this rifle.. overall fit and finish seems to be good. Accuracy sucked per the author.. will post more laster today..

Per the article, of the various loads fired only one was 1 1/2".. most were in the 2.5 to 3" area at 100yards..

The author stated it is a "stalking" rifle and tried to justify the poor accuracy a bit stating most shots would be 250 yrds or less.

Love the design and caliber.. but in today's world, and for that kind of money, I expected more and frankly there is no reason it isn't.

The quarter rib is a disappointment. Not in keeping with the attempt to design and sell a traditional looking rifle.

No quarterrips on victorian era guns...please.
Uberti should have made a copy of the Rigby Banks SS in english calibers only with full sightrip and express sights.

A Winchester with quarterrip in .30-06 or .223....lol

1885 Courteney Stalking Rifle
Courteney Stalking Rifle
Blue Steel, C/H Receiver

By the 1890’s, the West had been all but civilized, bringing to an end the days of lawlessness, exploration and Indian fighting. On the other side of the world, however, another era of exciting adventure had begun: big-game hunting and exploration. Not unlike the Easterners who had settled the West, many British hunters ventured into the unknown of Africa and Asia to become legendary names—and their hunting rifles the most sought-after by collectors worldwide.

It is in this spirit that Uberti USA offers the 1885 Courteney stalking rifle. Named after the celebrated English hunter, explorer and naturalist Courteney Selous (1851-1917), this rifle gives today’s shooter the looks, feel, and usability of the turn-of-the-century British single-shots that were first taken to the British colonies—but at a fraction of the cost. The 1885 Courteney is built on the ultra-strong 1885 action and makes its debut in the classic .303 British cartridge—the most used caliber in the British Empire.

Perfect for the whitetail woods at home and for glamour game abroad, the Courteney promises to be a unique and most trusted companion for your hunting adventures.

FEATURES

Sports a quarter-rib slotted for a set of Weaver rings and outfitted with a fully-adjustable shallow-V rear sight. It also comes with a traditional hooded ramp front sight as well as a barrel-mounted sling-swivel–just like the old classics. For best results, we recommend using a low-power scope and rings marked “high.”

The stock of the 1885 Courteney is quintessentially British. The Prince of Wales buttstock is complemented by a classic recoil pad, while the slim, tapered fore-end features a contrasting tip, fittingly realized in African heartwood.

For those not wishing to use this rifle with a scope, a plain quarter rib, on which the adjustable V-sight may be mounted, is available as an accessory. Item #360637

I'd get the optional non scope mount quarter rib, and modify it for a scope. Get rid of the ugly semi piccatinny rail.

I have 2 Uberti rifles, an 1876 .45-75 and an 1885 High Wall .45-70. (not to mention cap & ball revolvers)
Both rifles are well made, function smoothly & correctly, and are accurate.
The stock and forend on the 1885 High Wall are not quite "correct" but from 10' away one would not know.

That said, their "Courteney" rifle leaves me absolutely cold from the looks department. Dangling ball sack grip and picatinny rail may appeal to some, but I'm an unreformed traditionalist. At least it has a 24" barrel.

Wonder if that is the reason gun reviews state women are getting rashes on their chins while shooting this rifle???

Except for the aforementioned hunk of metal on the top of the receiver, it appears to be an elegant rifle with only the essential parts.

However, my stalking rifle decision was made years ago and still stands:

This Winchester 1895 .405 WCF Take Down which holds 4 in he magazine and one in the chamber:

Sorry, but the “dangling scrotum” pistol grip and tacticool Picatinny type quarter rib are revolting.
Uberti could have done better.....
Nice caliber choice tho.

I don't mind the stock at all. In facts it's nicer and classier looking than the chunky square cut one on the original.

https://www.uberti-usa.com/sites/default...g?itok=bKdsd2hy

I don't like the Weaver rib though. Out of place. One can buy a replacement rib for open sights. Perhaps that could be modified in an unobtrusive way for QD mounts.
