Very nice Highwall. Good price too. I really like the newish colour case colours.

Ruger's No1 in .303 British certainly did well here.
So this '85 should do the job nicely as well!

Sorry, but the “dangling scrotum” pistol grip and tacticool Picatinny type quarter rib are revolting.
Uberti could have done better.....
Nice caliber choice tho.

I believe I'll stick with my original 1885 Winchester in 7X57R.

I must admit I'm not a fan of the 'weaver' quarter rib, the plain one looks so much better.
Speaking of better - certainly is a fancy piece of timber gracing yours Xausa!

Here is my version of a M1885 stalking rifle, in 22-2R Lovell. The scope is a Lyman Alaskan on Unertl Target Mounts.

Do you have trouble finding acceptable brass?
25/20 SS is the parent, isn't it?

Yes, brass is a problem. That is why I plan to have the rifle rebored to something more brass-friendly. I am thinking of 7x57R, or 25-35, or 30-30. Any of these would be fun and useful.

By the way, I don't know why the image isn't displaying.

The stock design is a modification of a pattern from a Westley Richards .318 rifle that I once owned. It makes for a nice handling rifle.

When I get more ambitious, I plan to add a band sling swivel, stock sling swivel, and checkering. Then the metal will get a nice browning job.

25/35 would be quite an interesting SS rifle ctg. as would 7x57R. Just something about the .30/30 I don't like. (maybe - EVERYBODY'S got one) the other two noted, not so much.

I have a good deal of 25-35 brass and factory ammo, and I like it quite a lot. 7x57R brass is easy to come by: simply neck down .444 Marlin brass in several steps, and trim to length. .30 WCF is admittedly mundane, but it is still a useful caliber. I may have to flip a coin...

Only trouble with the .22 HP - is the .228" bullet size.
If set up for .224" bullets, great!

Here's one. Buffalo Arms 55gr .228 bullet

another quote from a forum:

Buffalo Arms makes 45 grain and 60 grain .228 bullets for the 22 Hi Power

There are lots of combo guns available from tradeexcanada in .22 HP,. Tradeexcanada has some .228's for sale. They are quite expensive. $64.00 per 100 and they are out of stock, of course.

Was on a work conference call earlier today, so naturally was perusing online, and I came across something that Uberti didn’t think of.
They make a 45/70 High Wall which has a 28” round barrel - looks like the only one with a round barrel they offer.
Uberti could have easily taken that rifle, added a two leaf express sight and set it up like the early Winchester’s that were sold in the Indian market.
Even keeping the 45/70 chambering would better replicate the experience of most of Selous’ hunting life.
I just think they overthought this rifle and made some very poor decisions in it’s design.
