HI guy's,
First of all, Thanks to Dale & Naki for posting the pictures of these fine rifles for me, This one was built in 1928 in 30 GOV'T 06. It has a 26" bbl, Merco set triggers with a block off for the set trigger, horn forend tip, Zeiss claw mount scope, someone has added the pad but at least they did not cut the stock, figured that I will shoot it a bit before deciding to re pad or install another horn butt plate. As you can see it is an extremely nice rifle! I uncovered this one from a gentleman that was refining his collection, he aqquired it from his father that purchased it and another high quality shotgun sone time in the 1950's. I paid dearly to aqquire it and would be curious as to others opinions as to it's value as these fine Mausers have gone up in price signifigantly over the last couple years, I am not sure if it was a good deal or not, but it was to nice of an example to pass on, it belonged with my other Scherping guns. Looking forward to others opinions as to what they think it is worth.

Unfortunately these fine Guild pieces do not command the same prices as the Mauser Oberndorf sporters, but I would guess that $4500 would be in the ball park. BTW, lose the pad and install a nice horn buttplate.

Don, I think you are right on point with the price and about the horn buttplate but I figured I would shoot it a little to determine the recoil and if I wanted to fit a better type pad or the horn buttplate which is the way I would rather go if the recoil is not excessive. This is the 4th H Scherping mauser that I have bought (beautiful rifles) and that seems to be the going price with good claw mount scopes on them, this one was neat in the fact that all the leather goodies came with it as well and with it having the set trigger block off for the set trigger, the only one of these I have seen & note the hinged floor plate & beautiful metal work.

M4220,

Absolutely splendid rifle! The engraving is also very, very nice.

Congratulations and good hunting!

Thanks Mehul,
It is certainly a great example of the craftsmanship that was sold out Heinrich Scherpings esablishment and is certainly the most embelished of my mausers from his shop. I tend to lust over his black powder guns a little more as I believe they were actually built by his hands and the mausers were built after his death in 1913 and the business continued under his name when run by 2 brothers name Johann & Heinrich Eckebrecht who were also Hofbuchsenmachers and I have been told that they advertised in Wild & Hund as late as 1937 although I have not been able to verify that yet. Like Don say's, will have to lose the pad and replace a horn buttplate to match the forend tip, at least when it was padded they did not cut the stock. This Merco set trigger has a plate held in with a screw so that you can swing this plate in behind the rear trigger disabling the set trigger and is the only one of these I have seen. The flag safety has an inlayed gold bar dovetailed into the safety with an S engraved in it which I did not catch in the pictures and the bore is perfect, I can't wait to get some loads worked up and see if it shoots.

it looks like oberndorf bottom metal could be built on an oberndorf action ,i liike the grip and typical hog back styling, about 15 years ago i would hunt these down at gun shows...when they would sell anywhere from 600 -1200 max ..times change......paul
