Another Mauser

This is about the last Mauser I own worth posting.
It is a Wilhelm Schultz in what I think is 9X57 - haven't chamber cast or measured the bore yet.
Pretty nice gun - the sole full length stocked gun I own. The trigger is goofed up though - 50's mod I would guess...

The bolt handle apepars to be a copy of a pre-64 Model 70 Winchester. The trigger looks like a Canjar single set model, very desirable. Is the action D&T'd for scope mounts?

The action is drilled and tapped - in fact, it had mounts attached recently, but with no rings, so I took the mounts off.

Interesting.
"Wilhelm Schultz" of course sounds very German. And 9x57 is an old German caliber, obsolete after WWII.
But the stockwork looks classic American. Fleur-de-lis checkering patterns were never popular in Germany. Then the Canjar trigger, the bolt handle, and what appears to be a Winchester 70 type safety.
This might be a prewar German rifle, restocked and modernized by a very good American gunsmith.

Don't the Scandinavians use the 9x57 even now to some extent or the other? Whatever the vintage, this is a really beautiful rifle.

Thanks for sharing the pictures and good hunting!
