Not so long ago there was a post asking for the difference in recoil between the .416 Rigby and .458 Winchester.

I understand that felt/perceived recoil can vary depending upon stock weight and design. I was wondering where those of you with multiple, large bore centrefire magazine rifles rate them for recoil.

Where does the .404 Jeffery fit ?

In 10 pound rifle, with 400 gr. bullets at 2400 FPS the recoil of the 404 and the 416 are going to be so close that you probably can't tell the difference at all. Both have about 54.5 Ft Pounds of recoil according to my "Load Base Recoil Calculator"
If you look at the original 404 load with a 400 grain bullet at 2150FPS we have 44.5 Ft.Pounds

The 458 with 500 grain bullets has 60 Ft Pounds.

I have a 404 by Jeffery. It has a steel butt plate and I can fire it off the bench for as long as I need to. No pads or sleds. Just a shirt and the rifle.

The 404 is the easiest shooting .375 and up caliber that exists.
