How many rounds will a M98 with a drop box in .404 Jeffery hold?
With an English style stock.

Thanks 500Nitro,
I am thinking of building a .404 Jeffery on a M98 and would use Sunny-Hill's drop box bottom metal if I do proceed with a .404 Jeffery.
Andy at Sunny-Hill said the sides of the box has enough metal to widen it for the correct geometry for the .404.
Will use a copy of a H&H stock with an 8.5" tapered forearm. I'm hoping it will be able to hold 4 down. Not sure I want to do it if it can only hold 3 down. Not for any practical reasons just well, cause.

I would think 3 max. Most magnum 98's as in .338's etc. only hold 3 3/4's. Thus the larger diameter .404 might sneak in 3 as well. : The M70, 264WM I rebarreled to .458 Alaskan, then to .458 2", actually holds 5 standard magnums in the box. It held ony 3 1/2 of the .458 Alaskans which have almost identical case head size compared to the .404.

Thinking about it, I would say 3 + 1 in the chamber giving 4 total.
If you can do anything about lowering or deepening the bottom metal, that has more effect than anything else.
I can't get to my take down 404 atm so can't check. That was built on a M98.

500Nitro, Yes the Sunny-Hill drop box bottom metal is deeper then standard.
rigbymauser, Is the .333 Jeffery the same case diameter as the .404 Jeffery? Do you have the "coffin" Rigby style drop floor plate or is the box and magazine deeper?

My Jeffery 404 holds 3 down in the standard box.
Why not ask the fellow who is selling you the magazine how many it holds?
Why do you want an extended Mag? They are a PITA to get to feed and look like a pregnant fish.
Just my opinion of course.

Yes...the base diameter of the .404 is the same as the .333 jeffery. 404 is the "motherbrass" so to speak.
The magazine is not a dropbox...but the floorplate is deeper. I will post some pictures late next week or 10 days or so. Pictures says everything
