Hi all, my CZ 550 Safari Custom in 375 H&H just arrived. It is absolutely gorgeous. I did have to send it back once, but what a difference! The action is perfect, snug tight locking, no wooble when you work the bolt, but smooth and slick. The stock is beautiful. Hi Vis front sight bead, dual crossbolts, glass bedded, barrel band, Pachmayer Decelerator Pad, Mercury recoil reducer and CZ action job. Not cheap at $2100, but I think well worth it. I get to shoot it tomorrow. I'll try and take some pictures too. I still probably will send it to Ed Plummer at AHR for his CZ 550 Upgrade #1 package ...

Chuck,
I wonder when they started putting in the crossbolts? I order the same rifle in early 2006, but mine doesn't have the crossbolts. I too had it glass bedded and have not had any problems. It has around 350 rounds thus far and has made it Africa 3 times. That is some nice wood....

You need to adjust the sizing so the pix come in a bit smaller.

I specifically ordered mine with glass bedding and dual crossbolts STGS. I started out with an American Safari Magnum through the CZ custom shop, but added so many extras, it was cheaper to upgrade to a Safari Classic. The Safari Classic gets you the fancy walnut stock (which I love), glass bedding, dual cross bolts, choice of finish, and barrel band. I added an action job, Pachmayer decelerator recoil pad, mercury recoil reducer (standard on the 500 Jeffery and 505 Gibbs) and High-Vis front sight. Total cost to me including shipping and tax was $2100.

Four months, but I sent it back once, had a few issues. Sportsman's Warehouse and Jason at the CZ Custom shop were great to work with though. I could talk to either directly.

I shot another 40 rounds through my CZ Safari Classic today. Learned two things, I defintely need a scope on it (I've always shot with a scope, even deer/elk running through the black timber). No problem off-hand with keeping 3 shot groups under 4 inches at 50 yards with open sights, but I could easily half that and shoot faster with a nice 1.5 - 5x 20mm Leupold. Second thing, this rifle is a pussycat with regards to recoil, I'm almost certain to have it rebarreled to .470 Capstick or a .500 class round next winter. I also shot a bunch of 3 shot strings rapid fire (for me) off hand. The action fed and ejected flawlessly, but my groups definitely got bigger during rapid fire. Practice, practice, practice...
