Love those B&L scopes and mounts. I have always found them aesthetically pleasing.

What would be the serial number range (ex: 12XX, etc.). I have one in .375 H&H that I would like to see how close the range is. I suspect mine is from the 1950's. You don't need to supply all the numbers, just enough to see the range. I note this is a true commercial action with no charger or thumb slot. My .375 has both the three position lever safety on the bolt shroud, and a side thumb safety for use with scope. Mine has not had a scope, but is drilled and tapped. The reciever ring has the stylized FN logo.
Very nice vintage FN.

I'm curious too.

We have a .270 that is nearly identical.

Hey Gentlemen,

Dad got the rifle back in the early sixties and the fellow who had originally bought the gun also had his receipt which Dad still has somewhere and I was thinking it was in 47. As usual though , i put my cart before the horse and was looking as Speed's book tonight and it states they started cutting out the ring in 48. I'll check the gun tomorrow because i just can't remember if it's cut or not but the number is 3337X. The scope was on the rifle when he got it and Dad has killed a couple deer with it. It doesn't have adjustments but just kinda goes with the gun but it's a far cry from what we have available today.

Nice rifle and scope. I used to want one of those scopes, thinking they would be more waterproof. I suppose they have a big field of view, not needing the field-stop of image movement scopes and the resultant black ring. Bushnell helped blend the internal and external fields by tapering the rear overhang of the ocular bell, at one stage, and wonder why they left that idea behind.

Are the B&L mounts easy to adjust and reliable?

Speaking of the Mausers having both wing and side safeties, has anyone heard of safety problems with this set up? I have heard that without the more-modern extended bolt shroud, the striker may be bumped up out of engagement with the sliding safety.

With tears in my beer, I've edited the post to note it's a later gun. I pulled the stock and the receiver is numbered 2312 but both the bbl. and receiver are numbered 33371. I thought it was a c ring and should have checked to make sure but it's an h ring.

I did take some more pictures of the mounts showing the opposing cones.

Another very beautiful rifle and being an FN her bolt must be as smooth as glass to operate!

Both you and your father are men of impeccable taste. Hope many more fine rifles make it into your gunsafe!

Good hunting!

The tapered crosshairs are a result of early variable power scopes magnifying the crosshairs along with the target when the power is increased. Using standard crosshairs would have meant that too much of the target was obscured at higher magnifications. As the technology improved, the need for tapered crosshairs disappeared.

I have your '06's twin brother and it was made in 1962.

Great rifle, has accounted for many warthog, gemsbuck, blue & black wildebeest, impala, gemsbuck, springbuck and blesbuck.

Last rifle I will ever sell!
