Fusil Robust cal 16/70
      #91844 - 17/12/07 10:22 PM

Hi guys, a friend of mine (he is not a hunter) has inherited a nice French S/S shotgun made by Fusil Robust in cal 16/70. Right barrel has semi choke and left barrel full one. Gun is almost as new, tight, barrels are shiny new. I have no clue when it was manufactured. I handled it today and it fits like a glove.

So, I am willing to buy this sweetie but don't have a clue what is it worth. I would like to offer my friend a fair price. Gentlemen your help would be appreciated!

Hi,
The "Robust fusil" was made by Manufrance or better "Manufacture Fracaice de Armes et Cicles de Saint Etienne".
It was the boxlock shotgun offered by Manufrance, their best gun was the Ideal shotgun.
It looks like the modern version.
If you google “manufrance” you will find more info.
Hope this helps
Martin

Thanks for clearance Beleg - there are also couple of Merkel shotguns around for ~ 350 € - how would you rate this gun according to Merkel?

I have not seen Merkel shotguns so I can tell.
The Robust is a very good gun but you must see the Ideal. I have one and I love it.
Thanks
Martin

Thanks guys - we settled for 200€ and some duck hunting (I guess we have a new hunter ). I plan to remove varnish finish from the stock and turning it to an oiled one?

You did VERY WELL! Here is my older and very used Robust No. 4 in 16ga with my wonderful Llewellin Setter, Ms. Scarlet.

These guns sell for $700.00-$2,000.00 here in the USA, depending on model and condition. Yours is a beautiful gun!

Lovely stuff luv2safari thanks. Gun is in my possesion allready, I plan to hunt on Sunday with it.

BTW looking at straight hand stock you have, I wonder if I should go for one. All my shotguns so far had semi-pistol grip and I have never used one with straight hand stock. Gentlemen any pros or cons would be appreciated - thank you!

The advantage of straight stocks is that theoretically they allow the hand to slip down to a more comfortable position for the rear trigger. I have double trigger guns in both configurations, but I find the ease in gun mounting with the pistol grip stock outweighs any theoretical advantage of the straight stock. I even have difficulty with the rounded pistol grip on my Merkel 201E, as compared to the more pronounced one on my Perazzis. However, optically it's hard to deny that the straight stocked guns look better.

IMHO it boils down to a matter of taste.

Thanks xausa - will talk to stock maker - BTW I went out yesterday - it was rainy - stumbled on a bachelor group of 5 mallard drakes - they took off all at once - got a fancy "doublette" with fast right and left
