Compare the 8X57 made in 1924 with the 8X60 made in 1926 - They are only 3 serial nos apart!

I notice the scoped rifle has a wedge in the forearm, presumably keyed into the barrel, while the other rifle does not. I have never understood the function of this wedge anyway, and now I am doubly puzzled. Can you enlighten me?

I recently aqquired #3206 8x57JS which was built with far less embelishments than # 3203 8x60S, Note: 1/4 rib not full length, no forend wedge, no cartridge trap, less extensive engraving, this
was also probally reflected in the price when purchased and attributes to the much heavier use seen by #3206. The part that facinates me more than any other factor is that these 2 rifles once again stand together in a gun rack after 80+ years and half a world away. As time allows I will do some
restoration work to bring this rifle back to it's former glory, but until then, I can't wait to take it into the field!!!

M4220,

Beautiful rifles! And it is an 8x57JS - a round that I love and have a rifle (albeit a more pedestrian one) in! And, almost a matching pair... The pluses keep going on!

Thanks for sharing the pics and thanks also to Ashok for posting them here.

Good hunting, gentlemen!
