The PH Arnaud Mermet runs a website about his hunting seasons in Tanzania.
He is working for Tanganyka Wildlife Safaris (Pasanisi)

Some nice tuskers.

Yesterday Arnaud called me and explained how good his hunting areas are.
A real Hunters' paradise : Half of the Selous = 8 camps on 40 existing, and plenty of parts never hunted.
and 5000 000 acres (2 M ha) in the Masailand.
I had to ask him to shup up when he listed all the different games available.
A pity that hunting in Tanz is not for everyone's budget.

I'd be glad he posts on this forum, his knowledges and expertise may be really interesting.

Larcher,

Yes they have spetacular areas. And those are spetacular elephants!

I also have heard they are an almost flawless outfit. However, I have also heard (correct me if I am wrong) that Pasanisi´s outfit is way more expensive than others in similar areas. If a Coke in a Tanzania campt costs 8 dollars, at Pasanisi´s it costs 15$. One fellow south american told me that having spent over 100 grant in a long Tanazania safari, they still had thousands in camp and beverages bill despite having nothing extraordinary like like expensive wines or anything. Hope I am wrong because like you I would love to hunt with them.

However, like discussed in the other thread, some camps are becoming little "jet set" locations!!!

It would be great to hunt these same areas from a simple camp, not without reasonable confort. Actually simple camps are almost always confortable. Some are great exaclty because they are simple and relaxed.

I have right now invited Arnaud. As he is very cheerful and friendly, I am sure he'll rush in here in no time.

ddouble,

You'll have all the needed answers. IMO, You are not wrong. Pasanisi in Tanzania and Guerini (Faro West) in Cameroon are offering first rate hunts with all the facilities. No doubt that that has a cost.
Let's wait for Arnaud's post.

First, I would like to thanks Larcher for introducing me in this forum.
Congratulations for this great forum, unfortunately in France we don't have a forum like this.
Like Larcher told you, I am a PH, I work in Tanzania for TWS (Mr Pasanisi). I have also worked before as a PH in CAR and Benin (5 years with Club Faune, also in Cameroon (4 years with Africam safaris).
Since 4 years now I work for TWS. It is really a wonderfull compagnie with amazing territories in Selous and Massai Land.

To answer to your questions, concerning the price of a safari, we are not more expensive than other compagnie, sometimes even we are cheaper. The only difference is because we only do big safaris of 21 days. It is a rule in the compagnie to keep good quality of trophees (we maybe do less safaris than other compagnies).
We have good french and south african wine but if you have a special request for a very good wine it is possible.

Concerning the camps, all are on a very good standing, the staff is really qualified, some work for the compagnie since 20 years.

I hope I have answer to all your questions.

Best regards,

Arnaud

Hi everybody,

Thancks Larcher for the post of the pictures. The first elephant was taken in 2007, by a french Hunter and PH Nicolas Dubich, the second elephant was taken in 2005 by also a french hunter and PH François de Grossouvre.
Every year we shot some monster's like this!
In fact we have big territories in south of Selous, the politic of the owner is very simple, kip a very big reserve, we hunt on the few percentage of these territories that is very good for old bill's elephant who like a quite places.
So Sinner you’re welcome!

Arnaud

Arnaud,

Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting such fine pictures. - You must know my friend Laurent Garcia who works for the same company?

DD,

The company is one of the very best, probably the very best company in Tanzania. All their areas are excellent and some of the things they do to keep it that way is limit the offtake by not taking the entire quota and then paying the Government for the entire quota to keep the aforementioned Government and GD happy. Only accepting 21 day booking helps as well, because it means they take fewer buffalo over the season etc etc. Camps and facilities are also full of excellent style and comfort.

Sure they're expensive, but it's worth every penny, and let's face it, you can't buy a Westley Richards double rifle for the cost of a Bruno B/A and you can't buy a Rolls Royce for the cost of a Ford. That's life, quality costs money............

BTW, Arnaud, I can't access your site from here in south Africa. - have you had any problems with it?

Hunting in Botswana might be very interresting.
My website work well, I don't know why you can not have a look on it?

Hi Arnaud,

We operate in a few areas..... This year will mostly be in R2, R4 & K3. - We actually tried to book with you guys but couldn't get the timings right. Last year we hunted Mto Wa Mbu and a couple of other Selous areas as well.

I first met Laurent about 6 years ago up in Burigi. Didn't see him at all last year though. - Is he married yet?

Yup, Botswana is nice, but gets damn cold at night!

Hi Arnaud,

I've never met Jean but have met either his brother or cousin..... we didn't have much time to talk though.

I also was up in Mto Wa Mbu early last year but was shocked at the amount of charcoal making operations are going on up there now. If the Government don't put a stop to it soon, the whole place will become a desert. I was also suprised to see how much the town itself has grown. I remember it when the road was dirt and you could drive from one end to the other in about 2 minutes...... times change, I guess!

Personally, I prefer Irikishibor by a long chalk. - It's not a popular area with a lot of PHs, but I've always done very well up there. I think a lot of the reason is that you have to be prepared to work the area the right way to get the best out of it.
