Brno Hard Hitter Deluxe, 12 gauge.
      #94631 - 18/01/08 09:31 PM

I believe this model is called ZP49.

I have two questions regarding this gun:

1) Does the * / asterik on the barrel and action flats denote a full choke?

2) What is the chamber length? There is no mention of the chamber size anywhere but considering its rather pompous sounding name could it have a 3" chamber?

If there are any past or present owners of this shotgun on the board, I would be interested in hearing your views on this shotgun.

Herewith a few photographs for your reference...

Thanks.

Not by * but imprints on barrels say choke is 17,4mm on both - 12ga is 18,5mm so constriction is 1,1mm or 1100 mikrometers alias american Extra Full choke.

Nice linee- incredible amount of castoff, though. Must be 1/2" at the heel.

93mouse,

Thanks for working that out. Would you know what the * stamping denotes?

Daryl,

The cast off is one thing that I haven't measured. However, the gun comes up reasonably well for me. Will post all the other relavant measurements later.

It's a pretty light gun...for a Brno, that is.

Rustam,

She's come off beautifully after your TLC. I really don;t see any reason why you have to be embarassed with your work. Do post some Before pics - show her off, as I always say, as if you had Keira Knightley on your arm.

Cheers, buddy!

RHB,
I don't know what the asterisk means but the N in the frame means Smokeless Powder Final Proof and the last mark means Preliminary Proof.
Maybe an e-mail to the Czech Proof House, www.cuzzs.cz will unveil the mystery.

elvas great find - here are the symbols - scroll to "Znacky" (symbols):

web page

Czech language is distantly related to Slovenian - while we get more accurate results I can try some:

Voluntary/Preliminary black powder proof

Smokeless Powder Final Proof Prague 1931-1962

and

means it was tested in Brno (Bruno) between 1946 - 1952

Thanks, Mehul. There are quite a few 'before' pics but I will post them some other time. Rust bluing the barrels is still pending and I hope to do that in the next couple of months.

Daryl, I completely forgot about the measurements. Will post them in a couple of days.

Elvas & 93Mouse, thanks a ton for the link and the translations.

I have had a ZP49 since 1978, when I bought it new in Nairobi; plainer than yours but I like to think of it as my Funeral Model. It came choked full and full, and I eventually had Briley thin wall tubes installed (for more than the gun cost), and had it bent to fit me. It has been totally reliable and the choke tubes make it very versatile; I have killed everything from sand grouse to topi (with a slug) with it. Since hanging round double gun forums I have accumulated some higher grade guns, but the Brno is still my first baby. I just wish I could load a .470 in one barrel for those awkward buffalo moments.

Hey LGF,

Showing your guns off is mandatory. Don't be shy and do post pics when you have time.

Good hunting!
