Mauser Type S 9x57 - A Don S Treasure Again
      #94486 - 17/01/08 11:10 AM

One more beautiful Mauser from Don S - a full stocked Mauser Type S in 9x57. Don should post more details shortly.

Good hunting, everyone!

Not much to say about this no-frills rifle other than it's a real clean all original Type S from 1922 in great condition. It's getting difficult to find pieces like this.

Don and Mehul,

That's it! I've had enough! I'm going to file a formal complaint with NitroX stating that you two guys must stop conspiring to post photos of these great, classic Mausers and, as a result, torturing the other members of this forum!

Seriously, I am very much enjoying these photos from Don's collection. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Cheers!
-Bob F.

Don,

Kinda like saying a 67 E Jag with 20,000 miles in orgional condition just "no frills" :^)

Bob,

Since I get to see the pics first when Don sends them to me, I must confess that I have drooled enough to irrigate a desert. Don is the person to be thanked for sharing the pictures here. I only post them.

Dale,

So Don has the Jaguars and you have the classic Corvette Stingrays. I must thank everyone here who shares pictures of their treasures. Hopefully, we shall have the best online library of classic gun, hunting and ammunition pictures on the net very soon.

Good hunting gentlemen!

OK, if I'm going to be associated with Jaguar, lets make it a '57 XKSS. Actually, I'm a Corvette guy having owned 8 of them over the years ranging from a '54 to a '78 Silver Anniversary.

I knew there was a reason I liked this Guy (Don S), coming from a former 1967 427 Stingray roadster driver, OH YEAH DID I MENTION HE HAS SOME NEAT GUNS TOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, until recently, I associated German long guns with the 'hogs back' comb, carved stocks, buffalo horn trigger guards and such. However, this is absolutely classic!

Yes indeed, Don and Mehul-

I think it's time for you guys to sponsor a driven hunt where all of us who've been exposed to this great pile of magazine rifles are invited -- and we get to use Don's rifles!!

Great stuff.
I was handling a rifle the other day that came from the factory as a spitting image of what you've shown here, except that some time long ago someone (very neatly, still no excuse...) removed the cheekpiece and the schnabel at the muzzle.
What goes through these peoples' heads?

Ain't that the truth. My keyboard is awash!

Beautiful Type S there - and no Jaguars of any kind here, though I did have a Citroen 2CV for ten years...

Been away for awhile but I must say that that rifle is one of my favorites. I love the Type S carbines and I think the 9mm Mauser is a really neat cartrdge. The fact that DonS's pictured here is so absolutely beautiful in appearance just adds to the lust!!!!

Today I saw a similar Mauser Type S (8 mm) made in 1914. The rifle was similar to this rifle and I held it in my hand, such a light weight rifle and a real beauty. I had never seen a full stock Mauser sporter rifle before and wanted to learn more about type S, so thought lets check on Nitro Express and see if there is any information available there. Don you have the real "GEMS". Collection Extraordinaire.

Now THAT'S what I think a Mannlicher stocked Mauser should look like.
I love it
I am making one for myself somewhat like that one. I like short barrels on full stock Mausers. Mine will have an 18" barrel with the double schnobel and a shotgun T. Guard. Standard 8X57. It's been a project I have nipped away at now for 5 years. I hope to get it all built this year.
I really like those old classic styles.

Steve
