Searcy price increase and top extensions

I was browsing the Searcy site and noticed that they are now building all their double rifles with top extensions.

What is a top extension?

Extension of the barrel assembly that fits into the action and is locked in place when gun is closed. Some have a semi circle on the end (dolls head).

Fascinating, one wonders if the fastener is new if there have been pressure problems proofing the guns. I doubt he would do that modification otherwise.

Has he gone to a different action??

Searcy guns have been used and used hard by many PH's. They have a no questions asked, lifetime guarantee. I pretty much guessed that the reason for the change was comercial but asked Butch Searcy anyway. His answer was that he had been making double rifles for 20 years and that a well made, modern double, does not need a top extension. However it is viewed by many buyers as a desireable feature and that tradition is one of the hardest things to go against.

I am taking delivery of a new Seacy classic model in 450 NE. It's supposed to ship on Monday

I doubt it.

I think Sporting D has probably got it closer to the mark.

I also think that as Butch has got better and better,
he can add more and more features.

Thanks guys,
I am also expecting my Classic in 400J in the next week or so , depending on how long Aus customs need it for to complete tests.
I did ask Butch for a "dolls head" to be added but he suggested it is not necessary so we left it at that. I was happy with his recommendations.
