Greetings everyone,
I`m new to the site, I`ve been lurking for the past month reading and soaking up any and all information I can on big bore rifles, I`m new to the big bore scene, just bought my first, a (85 date stamped) Brno ZKK-602 in 375 H&H, Engraved, I don`t know much about it, hence why I`ve been searching the forums. The fellow I bought it from said it was decently rare, factory engraved, and rarely shot. I was wary to shoot it, not because I wanted to preserve the rifle, but because I`d never shot a big bore before, and everyone told me I was going to break my shoulder, loose my teeth, be flat on my butt, (I`m a small guy) But I`m happy to say I took it out for the first time and cranked out 12 rounds, 300 grain Hornadys, and I still have all my teeth. Now I`m hooked! Anyways, I understand theres some very knowledgeable Brno guys on this site, so if anyone knows anything about the rifle I just bought, I`d be more than happy to hear about it.
Cheers from Canada.
Trev.
Oh, and heres some pics on photobucket.

Trev,
That is a very nice rifle.
Someone here would help you with more information but it does look like a fantastic rifle not just to hunt with but also to show off.
Good hunting and welcome to these forums. You are sure to be addicted to them and to make some very good friends here.

Thanks,
Ive recently ordered "Backbone Of The Wehrmacht The German K98K Rifle 1934-1945" and "Mauser Military Rifle Markings, 2nd Edition", as well as "The Swedish Mauser Rifles (For Collectors Only)" from Amazon to familiarize myself with some Mauser info, does anyone know of any Brno specific books, or some books that have more than a page or two of info on Brno rifles? If I type Brno into Amazon I get a bunch of tourist books

Trev... very nice 602, factory engraved examples are EXTREMELY rare!
Not much *accurate* Brno info around, but a link to a good history of Brno by Dr Alf Smith here:
http://weaponsonline.proboards76.com/ind...0797&page=1
Edited to include the full article, with more ZKK info from Dr Smith: http://web.archive.org/web/2006022808312...rames;read=2272
There was a great article on the Brno ZKK written by my Brno collector friend Gary Przibilla in a recent edition of Guns and Game Australia.
PM me your email address and I'll send you a scanned copy as a PDF.
Cheers

Very nice. The BRNO ZKK602 are so much better made than the CZs of today (i have owned both and got rid of my brand new CZ in disgust - don't mean to upset anyone here). I currently own 2x 458 BRNO (1983 model and a 1971 rechambered to a Lott). They are such a strong action and are a basis for many big game rifle projects. Not that you have to worry about that with your great rifle.
You have done extremely well. If you ever wanted to sell your rifle you will not have any trouble on this forum. Only prblem is that the rifle is not located in God's country (Australia) for me to purchase it if you were to sell it.
Well Done

Thanks man, I really like it, I REALLY REALLY want a 458 Lott Brno, they just don't come up for sale that often here.
Edit: You got me thinking, anyone have an idea of what my rifles approximate worth is?

Sorry to dig up an old post, but I purchased another Brno ZKK 602, I found the twin of my other engraved rifle! Well, not the twin, this one has a Rhino on the floor plate! Makes me wonder, were they a collection? Are there other floor plates? Perhaps other animals? Both have a '85 build date as seen on the receiver and barrel. Though I would share.

Have to agree w/ one of the earlier posters: the BRNO ZKK-602 Magnums are so much nicer and more appealing - and apparently are more feed-reliable - than their newer CZ 500 counterparts. Love mine, a 602 in .375 H&H.

Very nice 602 Trev. Just want to even things out here, I've had a couple of 602s and a few 550s. Maybe we get better guns here in Canada but I'd take the 550 over the 602 any time. I've only had Rigbys and 458s but all funtioned perfectly and have been extremely accurate.

MTM,
I agree every 550 I've handled up here in Canada has been excellent fit and finish. I prefer the Brno's however, they seem to fit me better, and I like them better than the 550 (just personal opinion). But I wouldn't turn down a new 550! I'm glad CZ is making quality guns at a decent affordable price in big calibers.
I've got a bunch of new in box Hornady 458 Lott brass, and Hornady .458 projectiles, so I need to find a Brno in 458, hate to have components sitting on the shelf waiting to be loaded and used.

Sorry to dig up an old post,
Hey not a problem! Continuing old posts again is not a problem at all here on NE, we like stuff from 120 years ago, or more, so a post continuing over the years is nothing new either.
Also we try to save the photos onto the NE server so the thread last over the years for future enjoyment. Curl is the one to thank for a lot of that hard work!
And gives newer members or members whom never saw the older post another look. Like me!
A couple of unusually engraved CZ'z. Cool. Congratulations. Hope you are still around too!

Neale,
Are you thinking of some work on your own CZ's?
Sorry, don't know how many of these were made, or if they are a customers own order, or aftermarket work? Engraving is often a optional extra from European gunmakers for special orders.
Maybe someone else knows.

It's certainly Euro-type engraving - quite German, isn't it? By that, I mean deep and bold.

I have never owned an engraved rifle but it wouldn't stop me buying one.
Just didn't know Brno did them.
No NitroX,I wont have any done on my rifles. Would rather spend the money building a 500j,bore gun,7x64 and so on and so on.

Trev,
No need to apologize - finding a twin to an already beautiful rifle is reason enough to post and brag about it. You are one lucky man!
Thanks for remembering to post here and hope many more masterpieces make it to your gunsafe.
Good hunting!

There's a similar one for sale atm on used guns. It appears to be a CZ 550 in 7x64 but the engraving looks similar.
