Who feels premium bullets such as woodleigh's are required for pigs ??

would say the Hornady 190 gr BTSP get the job done on a large Aussie Hog as well as a woodleigh 180 gr protected point or vice versa ??

It all depends on velocity as long as you don't push your Hornady past 2600 fps.

I've shot many animals with my 303 and my 375 with hornady and I don't have any complaints the biggest animals being kudu. But my 303 has over 80 pigs to his name with those hornady bullets.

PC

For pigs in Australia, I assume you are using a .30 calibre in a .308 or .30-06.

Most bullet weights of 150 gr or over will do OK, staying away from the more fragile ones.

I use 150 gr Nosler Solid Base HPs, SPs or Ballistic Tips. Though I don't like the Ballistic Tips, the straight Solid Base SPs were better.

A lot of Aussie pigs are quite small.

Of course a .375 H&H loaded with Taipan 235 gr Flat points also does some decent damage to them

Thanks folks I think I might give them a go the shooetrs warehouse in Canberra has them at a good price $45 per 100.

Nitro X I have not had that much to do with Taipans I had about a dozen here in .416 calibre, I shot a cat at 10 yards and the outcome was predictable to say the least (he exceeded his dimensions) They certainly are priced right, how do they go on pigs ??

PC3

The Taipans in 235 gr .375 are designed for the .375 Winchester.

As such they are designed to be driven at speeds of around 2000 fps. If loaded to this sort of level they make great practice rounds and also lesser meat damage. One of their advantages for practice is their price.

Loaded up to say 2500 fps they still make good lower recoiling practice rounds and if loaded up to a full 2800/2900 fps they are dynamite. As most of our boars are smaller and not as tough as the true wild boar, Sus Scrofa, they do pretty well.

Compare the results of a 80 gr .243 Winchester to a 235 gr .375 H&H

Nitro X the SWW did not have the quantity of Hornady's I needed so I opted for speer 180 gr Round Noses for my 30/06 and 300 gr .375 Hornady Round Noses for my .375. I feel flat points and Round Noses perform well on game.
