Help needed on 'classic' Indian calibres for Mauser 98 project

I need suggestions on calibres used in Mauser 98 type sporting rifles used in India during the first half of the 20th Century.

Please check out the following thread and make suggestions. Thank you!

John

The first calibre that came to mind was the 404 Jeffery.

While it is most known for its 400gr loading, the 300gr loading was developed for "hill shooting" in India.

However, since in the previous thread you stated you prefered a medium bore then the 318 is a good choice.
