Is this site becoming too crowded?
      #90263 - 01/12/07 11:24 AM

I feel NE.com has become a site that has stray away form it original intent, double rifles. It's why I joined. Hell, I blame you lot for me spending $45,000 on fire arms!!!

I'm not saying what this site has cost me!!

The wife still thinks my Double uses shotgun shells to shoot!! If she finds out how much it costs she's gonna be really pissed!!

I'm still hearing comments about hunting costs and my African trip---

I guess I don't understand your point. Care to be more specific?

He's probably worried that the forums are going to make him spend even more money, this time on Mausers, Mannlichers and small bore guns.

Just stick to the forums that interest you. Let all the other ones pass by unread. Yeah, I know, it did not work for me either, but it sounded good. 2 years ago I didn't own a double rifle. Now I own a 4 bore,a 700 nitro and a 470 nitro, talk about going broke in a hurry. I never even saw it coming!

Actually the original purpose of the forums was safris and international big game hunting. Then later we added an emphasis on Double Rifles which was a great success.

Most of the other interests are complementary to those two main interests.

Usually members ask for new forums to be setup, but every now and again, when upgrading software for example, that is a good time to "prune" the rarely used forums.

Use the View Recent Posts feature to get an overview of what new posts have been made in the last 24, 48 hour and 7 days.

John--

Being serious-If you had to choose one of multiple entry options before entering the main index feature or 24 hour/48 hr/7 day options you could streamline and focus topics better.i.e.-you could seperate buying/selling/solicitation of firearms/related items totally from Double rifles/hunting etc-

I have no idea what this post is about but I'll comment anyhow...

Is it a joke about buying doubles or a complaint against "The Management"?

Personally I think this is one of two best forums on the web. If a guy doesn't like or isn't interested in one or more of the departments listed here he can just ignore them.

I VERY much enjoy the international flavor of this forum, and really enjoy asking questions and reading posts of the NON-USA hunters and shooters about their hunting methods, etc. The more I learn from other traditions, the more I enjoy my own experiences, and from time to time find myself adopting some "fer'i'ner's" way of doing it.

Kudos to the Moderators and the fellows who cooked the place up!!

I would like to endorse 9ThreeXFifty7's comments and add that this is the most civilized forum a have participated in. Other forums have contributors with axes to grind, who don't hesitate to adopt an aggressive, argumentative tone on subjects they know little or nothing about. I end up reading posts on subjects I know nothing about and gain an education thereby.

I have a gun room full of guns and a library full of books on guns and hunting, both of which I enjoy, but suffer from the lack of anyone knowledgeable to enjoy them with me. This forum has gone a good way to filling that gap.

May I say that I think I am somewhat knowledgible about firearms(not necessarily Double Rifles) but this site never ceases to delight me with the depth and breadth of individuals knowledge here!! Someone here either knows or can direct you to someone who does!

I can't stand some of the jibber-jabber about firearms on some other websites. If you make a statement here, someone will have more than a subjective response to agree or disagree with your conclusions. They will have been there , done that!! You gotta be sure what you say has some merit--

All this makes for great threads! I usually learn something with the majority of the threads posted.

I will also agree with others that the international flavor and perspective on hunting, etc, here is great!!

This is the best site of this kind - Classic hunting rifles, international hunting & reloading - on the web. The experience & expertise seen here is unbelievable & cannot be acquired from reading books or magazines. It is amazing how diverse a group of enthusiast we have here & this has been a big bonus for my daily relaxation! I am certainly reviewing my wish list / budget for rifles & hunting trips to use them on!

I just look at the subjects that interest me - there are plenty of those. I still have to troll though all the old posts!

Thanks Nitox & others for a great site!

Gentlemen,

We're glad you enjoy the forums. There will changes made to them in the future, when the time for the work is found. Hopefully the changes will be an improvement liked by most.

Bonanza,

One thing I have done to simplify is this:

On each header row to the left there is a little Minus (-) sign which allows you to minimize that entire header group. There are several groups I rarely visit, so I just keep them minimized, thus reducing the number of forums displayed on my main index page.

You probably already had this figured out, but if not, I hope it helps.

Best,
Curl

This is the ONLY forum I have been interested enough to join. The topics are informative and interesting. I learn so much from the experience of others around the world. I am encouraged by the world wide spread of interest in classic guns, history, craftsmanship, sportsmanship, fair chase hunting and adventure. If this forum drifts out of line with NitroExpress classics, then we bring it back to the intent. I don't think we are overcrowded with members.
Keep it up NitroExpress.

Well I had to put a caveat in there before John's head gets too big

I do have a French language site that I rank up there with Nitro, but its more a general hunting site: sangliers.net

Bonanza:
I was originally from SC, also. Not the low country though. I understand the original intent, but, heaven forbid, a little diversity may keep us more interesting. Double Rifles do have a catagory of it's own though. I wish I had the fine double to participate in that catagory with more experience. The only double rifles (cartridge, anyway) I have fired were not mine. One day, praise be. My lowly capes and caplock SXS will do until then.

Constructive criticism is a useful thing and can result in worthwhile changes.

Now I DO have a criticism.

We have good members whom post good posts, with photos, informative comments or stories, whatever.

The view count is say more than a 100 views. And sometimes hardly a comment.

Forums are free. People contribute to them for free too.

But they appreciate feedback, comments and questions. A small 'payment' for enjoying free interactive forums!

My 'gripe' to add to this thread.
