Pictures of my J.P.Sauer singleshot.
      #90248 - 01/12/07 09:11 AM

There is a thread about a J.P.Sauer double rifle very similar to my singleshot.
I would like to post some pistures of mine.
It was chambered for the .310 Cadet and I rechambered for .22 Hornet.

This is the firing pack that includes set trigger.

Thanks
Martin

Martin,

I love it, the forend schnoble and barrel swivel just make it. Is the barrel 1/2 oct. or stepped down? perfect caliber as well. :^)

Martin,

Very beautiful! It is sad that more of these lovely little guns are not being made these days.

This may be OT but what small game (22 Hornet size, that is) do you get in Argentina? I have heard about your fantastic stag and pig hunting. I am curious about your small game.

Good hunting!

dale,
The barrel follows exactly the original contour, only a couple of inchs shorter.
It have a setepped down round barrel.

Mehulkamdar,
We have one of the best place for small game hunting (doves, ducks, pardriges, etc,) but mostly with shotguns, and I much prefer rifles.
I bought this rifle for the price, $ 100.- and then rechambered (have some one to do the job) specially for vizcacha hunting.
The vizcacha is a big rodent that weights 10-14 pounds and very good to eat. It is considered a pest or varmint so you can hunt any time.
Some year ago I was managing a big farm and have some “vizcacheras” = vizcacha towns similar to prairie dogs in USA.
It is mostly nocturnal but I have a town that use to begin activity at the last hour of the day. I wait from 75-100 yds and shoot a couple. It is very fun. The usual way to hunt is to rode with a vehicle at night from vizcachera to vizcachera with spot light but I do not like it too much.

Thanks
Martin

Martin,

That would be a blast for sure, I wasn't aware of the "vizacheras". Have you ever considered one of the newer red dot scopes? They make some new ones around 50 dollars that perform great on 22s. I put a small one on my son's 223 for coyote hunting. They're not that goodlooking but they perform well. Do you reload for the hornet?

dale,
The only problem hunting vizcachas with the Sauer is that you can eat only the rear half.
I hunt them with .22LR mostly and if you are not very carefull with aiming point they jump into their hole and you never get them. Half vizcacha is better than none. LOL
I try to brake both shoulders to anchor it.
I had a red dot scope but I allways forget to turn it on on to turn it off, so i use normal scopes.
Im using Remington ammo now but I made some reloading atempts. It was very tricky .2 grains have very much efect in accuracy. I found the perfect load, 10.2 grains of IMR 4227 and 45 gr Hornady bullets using the "Ladder Test".

Thanks
Martin

Martin:
Great rifle and write up. Tell me. I have several set trigger guns. I have one that is particularly too light of pull. The others seem reasonable. My double set trigge appears very close to the one you photo.
What is the best way to adjust? in the rested state, under the Set, or what? I have never tried to adjust my triggers, but this one is a bit scary to me for a hunting situation.
Thanks,

Martin,

Thanks again for the pictures and explanation! The vizcacha hunting does sound like great fun. I am presuming the pelts would also be useful especially if you shoot any during the winter months.

Very good hunting!
