Very nice !

But I don't think I will ever own a double unless I get one for dirt cheap or for free

Frederik

I will make you sick.

I travelled with a Zim PH who was acting as a canoe safari guide. He was laid off from his outfitter being the last man on and least experienced when that outfitter lost a concession.

Anyway the outfitter had an Italian gunmaker as a client who came out every year just to hunt one elephant. He always brought out one of his own brands big bore doubles.

At the end of the hunt he always gave the double to the outfitters boss as a tip (!) And the outfitter having one already gave the doubles to the next PH in seniority. Five years later and this PH was next in line to get the double "tip". Just before that he was laid off.

What bad luck and what a "tip".

Also what good marketing. When other clients come out and see all the PHs use Brand Roma (or whatever the name was) Double rifles they would think, they must be good and many would buy one also.

BTW I hope my PH doesn't expect that from me this year. He had do be pleased with a headlight last year.

Ouch, dunno if I am the only one, but that safety looks nasty
It looks guaranteed to bite the thumb or web of the shooting hand with a serious size calibre under recoil!

I have not thaught of that, I though have the Blaser D99 Drilling and never got in contact with the saftey when shooting. Off course its only 7x57 and 20 gauge then.

Maybe I have to switch over to the Krieghoff Big five in the same caliber instead.

Krieghoff makes a fine rifle and their customer relations department is superb, but the Blaser action looks identical to the Krieg. If so that's not a safety but a cocking device. The rifle then would not have a safety; you mearly use the cocking device to get ready to shoot or decock to make the rifle safe.

Looks nice

Do you know the price and is it availible in Sweden
and in what calibers ?

I think that Krieghoff Classic also have the same
thing for the safetybottom, but I am not sure.

The S2 will be availeble up to 9,3x74R to start with and later on they will add Safari calibers as .500/.416 etc. I have no prices yet but I sure belive that it will be sold in Sweden.

When it's time to buy I will compare the balance between Krieghoff and Blaser and thn decide.

That is correct about the Krieghoff, it has the same sort of mechanism as Blaser.

My only chance of owning a double rifle is if I win the raffle that will be going on shortly over on AR Forums.

Has anybody heard of the "Jagdwaffe".It is a double bolt action.Lovely looking piece.I think I still got a picture somewhere or a website.I'll look fir it and post it.
This rifle works with a normal bolt but loads 2 bullets at a time and it has 4 bullets down.So you'l have 6 bullets ready to work out of a double rifle. What a pleasure!!!!!

That is a real good looking piece, website at http://www.jagdwaffe.com

I think this is the ultimate gun for a Elephant or Buffalo cull hunt.

I don't know about this one Christer. I think the Austrians, like the Germans, tend to over engineer things, and that just leaves a lot of room for things to go wrong. If I could afford it, I'd rather have a traditional double vs. a double barreled bolt gun. Just my $.02 worth.

Christer,

would you really dare to use a Blaser with all its plastic parts on dangerous game? Perhaps itīs a nice toy for moose and hogs when you hunt from a treestand, but facing an african buffalo or a lion, I personally would prefer something more reliable.

Best regards,

Fritz

G'day Everyone,
I know this may be a bit late but thought I may as well throw my 2 cents worth in anyway.
The Blaser double may appear to have a similar type of action to the Krieghoff but looks very different at both the action and barrel faces, as well as other areas.
The giant safety / cocking slide is often photographed in the rear uncocked position and actually sits well forward when in the cocked, ready to fire position.
Whether it is far enough forward to avoid any contact with the shooters hand I don't know as I have not fired one. (Yet!)
Regarding the bolt action double, I remember being just a little bewildered by some of the original advertising that appeared with the gun.
Quote....with 2 cartridges, it's a double hit within 5-7 seconds!!!!!!!!!!
and....all 6 shots can be fired within 30 seconds!!!!!!!!!!
I think they must have been cleaning the bores after each shot! Whadaya reckon??
Cheers Alan
