Budget Aussi and Kiwi airlines

Hi all,

As I've mentioned to some of your I've got a conference coming up in July in Brisbane. I'm interested in doing a little travel in Australia and maybe New Zealand then too. Any recomendations on budjet airlines that are operating? How is Jetstar? Any other thoughts?

Virgin, Jetstar, Qantas, all of them are fine.

We have strict rules here so the airlines maintain
IMHO higher standards that some OS airlines by a
long way.


IMHO, just stay away from Tiger Airways, regardless
of how cheap a flight may be, they are anti gun.

New Zealand is mostly Air New Zealand. They do gun regularly without hassels. Send me a PM if you need more info. Welcome to Aotearoa - the Land of the Great White Cloud!

The airlines are all OK - except Jetstar seems to often run behind schedule, so be wary of that.

If you are bringing a firearm the equation changes because Jetstar Asia does not carry firearms while Jetstar Australian domestic service does. Some Qantas services through Singapore are actually serviced by Jetstar Asia. All actual Qantas and Virgin Australia Pacific services allow firearms.

When making bookings you may find it convenient to book on their websites where often reasonable deals can be had.

Qantas's is at:
http://www.qantas.com.au

I do not know Virgin's but an internet search using the address http://google.com.au and selecting Australian addresses should find it quickly.

I prefer to fly: Qantas; Virgin, in that order. Never considered Jet Star and probably won't unless I have to.

NOTE: when booking for international airfare to Brisbane, you MAY be able to add international legs to it to use later and it MAY not be a lot more expensive eg if flying North America to Brisbane, see if you can add a Brisbane to Sydney (or wherever) flight to it. Sometimes the international flights fly on to another city and 'domestic' passengers can later board the flight to continue eg Qantas has international flights to Darwin, that fly onto to Adelaide. It is possible to book a flight to Darwin but re-board later and fly to Adelaide. Worth seeing if it is an option and any cheaper.

The same goes for NZ. If you want to go to Wellington or New Plymouth, just book right through. Often the flight from Auckland or Christchurch (the major international airports) to the other add-on destination is free!! This is only the case for international travel. You could save $200 or more by booking right through. Air New Zealand are the only one who will offer this arrangement as an international fare since they operate the domestic leg as well.
