want to hunt prairie dogs... help!
      #8820 - 12/02/04 09:29 AM

boils down to this:

1) looks like fun
2) sounds like fun
3) looks pretty cheap
4) I don't have anywhere to do it
5) Willing to drive where ever.. I just want to smoke some prairie dogs!!!

I have a friend who travels to the Sioux Reservation in South Dakota every year to shoot PDs. He pays a small fee and shoots until he drops.

I go to Eastern Oregon to a friends ranch to shoot Ground Squirels (Sage Rats) On a good day I'll burn 500 .22s and 150 .223s. They are smaller than Prairre Dogs, about the size of a pop can, and you can shoot them at closer range.

They are also good practice for your hunting rifles. Off hand and any postion.

I don't know anyone in Nebraska with a lot of dogs to shoot... that's the problem, and most of the land is privately held. they fly-fish here, but not as much as they used too. to a degree its a lost art.

I travel well, and I bring gifts!

Contact the Fish & Game offices in Wyoming, and ask for a list of ranchers that allow sod poodle hunting. They should be able to help you out.

"I just want to smoke some prarrie dogs" You really have to dry them out because they are a pain in the A.. to keep lit. Okay that was bad I know.

When prarrie dog hunting you need to make sure you have an excellent placed first shot, you don't want those bad boys chargin

That's why they're referred to as "Meadow Grizzleys".
