Good price for a double rifle
      #8526 - 09/02/04 04:09 AM

I'd dearly love to own a double rifle capable of taking a Cape Buffalo, but their price is enough to give one the vapors. How much, or should I say, how little could I pay for a decent, functional double rifle?

You can get a new Searcy PH in 470 NItro for about $10K. You can get a new Krieghoff for about a thousand less and a new Blaser for just a little less than the Krieghoff.

One thing to consider is there is a differencem in price in almost all doubles, when you go from a medium bore (9.3x74R and down) to a big bore. Take a look at www.gunsamerica.com in the their "double rifles" section for some prices for new and used double rifles. There is also a section on "krieghoff rifles" and "sig rifles" where Blasers are listed.

It's a little far from Pennsylvania but their is new store here in Southern California called "Ivory Beads" that is exclusively high-grade guns....mostly side-by-sides in shotguns and rifles. They are dealers for Searcy and are very in-tune with the market on quality guns and they are a pair of really nice guys who realize you don't need to retire on the proceeds of each sale. Take a look at their website www.ivorybeads.com The A.W. Wolf 9.3x74R they have is a piece of art...photo doesn't do the engraving justice.

Mike

What sort of calibre are you looking for, I guess a minimum of a .400?

DBBill, that's a nice site.

MikeH, it shouldn't be too hard for you to find a good double if you aren't stuck on a name. There are a lot good used ones available, unless you are absolutely set on a new gun.

Actually, I'd rather have a used one that's had the bugs already worked out of it. And no, I'm not stuck on any name. Just looking for functionality.(is that a word?)

You can get a new Searcy PH model for $9500 in any caliber..I have one and it will touch both shots together at 50 yards everytime, I can shoot monolithics solids in it and run it at 2200 FPS with a 500 gr. bullet in its .470 caliber...It is tough, strong, accurate and much leaner than his older models, points like a 410 Boss...I love it, and I have owned a lot of double rifles, all English guns until this one, and for a using gun this one is my pick of the litter, hands down, no question about it...

Ray,

Let me get this right...is what you're saying that you like or dislike the Searcy? I think you need to be a bit more emphatic here, Ray. Will you be at home this weekend? I'd like to see your Searcy, if possible.

Luv2safari, if you get involved with playing with his toys, you're hooked, line and sinker. Next thing, you'll be posting every other week about your new doubles.
