The "fadeout" of the british Double gaugerifle...
      #85469 - 12/09/07 05:13 AM

After been reading a lot of these old guncatalogs from all kinds of british gunmakers, it appears that the Gaugegun was more or less faded out just prior to WW1. The Henry Jones underlever and rebounding hammers was "vogue" from about 1875-1900 where the hammerless more or less took leadership...but yet, a conservative Gent of 1912s england could still had a gaugerifle ordered to fit with all features of yesteryear. The price difference from a Holland & Holland hammerrifle "best quality" to hammerless "royal grade" was approx 20 Guineas(1904).

Here is my question: If anyone here knows that there has been double gaugerifles(not paradox) made after WW1, I would like to know....

Steve Zihn is building a 16 bore muzzleloading single-barrel rifle for me. It will be styled after Rigby guns, but won't be a copy of any of them. Needless to say, I'm excited about it, but haven't even seen a photo of the walnut blank yet. As progress is made, would you guys like me to share the photographs?

Take care, Tom

I think most of your assumtions on gauge guns are correct. I have an 8 bore Bland made right at 1900. However another user that posts here has a Bland bore rifle that may have been made/sold?? several decades later.

Tatume,
I for one would love to see pictures of your rifle in progress.....I would also love to have one of Steve's bore rifles myself.
