Krieghoff 450/400?????
      #84776 - 28/08/07 11:38 AM

Hey Guys,

What's this I hear about Krieghoff coming out with a double chambered in 450/400? Is it really true? Where can I find some info on it? I would like to read more about it? Does anyone know when to expect the first or second runs on these? How does one find out all this info? I can only imagine I need to stay in close contact with all of you who know alot more than I do about these things.

Thanks for your time.

JT

Thanks NitroX. I never even looked at their website. I guess I now have something else to save up to buy in a couple of years. My guess is the first ones coming next year are probably already spoken for. It'll take me about two years to save up the money for the new 450/400. I've never shot one, but from what I've read on the boards, it's a classic cartridge and very dependable with some of the bigger game. I would love to read more about it, but will wait for that to come as well. Thanks for the info.

JT.

I am not a Kreighoff fan but maybe they will inspire other Double manufacturors to step up to the plate.

A proper handling 450/400 Merkel or 450/400 Chapuis would be grand!! Does Heym have any out yet??

The 450/400 3" (AKA "400 Jeffery") was first introduced @ 1896 as what was likely the first large-bore cartridge designed for smokeless powder. John Taylor rated it as "unexcelled" in penetration and it was literally used by scores of African hunters with equal success; including the famed W.D.M Bell.

One has already been built. I heard about it through the grapevine when Krieghoff tried to get .400 barrels from Heym. The first of the Heym's should be in the US pretty soon.

What will the Heym guns cost? From what I've seen they are usually up in the "teens" of thousands of dollars. The K guns are usually around 10 to 12 thousand. Does anyone know how much these will cost?

The Heym PH model in .400 is around $16K.

Well,

That's what I thought. Does Heym make a cheaper model? I know, I know....I shouldn't wish so much for everything to be at the price someone like me can afford. I'm sure that's what makes the difference between those that have it and those that want it.

Thanks for your time.

JusticeTrimble - We've done everything we feel comfortable doing to try to bring the price down, and the new "PH" model with no engraving is our best effort in this direction. The idea was to provide the standard features that are expected in a double rifle while trying to save some money for the customer by not engraving the "PH."

I've given a lot of thought to the question, and yes, it could be made available for less, but that would come at the cost of ejectors, articulated front trigger, intercepting sears, etc... As it sits, the HEYM is more expensive, but in comparing features, the additional cost is justified. I'll have some photos of the new 450/400 soon.

PS - I had a set of barrels in my had last week in Germany, and the traditionalists will be glad to hear that the finished length is 26".
