Help needed on a 500/416 double
      #84701 - 27/08/07 06:27 AM

I recently bought a Blaser S2 double in 500/416. Here's the problem. It only wants to be fed WR ammo. Any other type of case ( BB, LFB) will not let the barrels close when the right chamber is loaded. The left chamber is no problem, though.

What I can see is that the lip that supports the rim is slightly shallower on the right chamber (maybe .001 in.) than on the left, causing the cartridge rim to sit a smidge higher and stopping the barrels from closing. Has anyone got a double in this caliber and can you tell me what ammo you shoot? WR pricing is $170 for 10 rounds. I can reload for under $5 per round.

Yes, the gun has been back to Blaser USA. Their gunsmith's comment was "I dunno"! He's no longer there!

I'm supposed to take this thing to Botswana for Buffalo in the long grass in April. If I can't trust it, I'm sending it back to Blaser along with five pounds of fine white sand and a gallon of 10-30 oil.

ask (by letter) blaser if they are gonna correct the situation or not. if there tech staff gives up suggest that it goes to a gunsmith that you trust, and they pick up the bill. if they cant fix the gun then a refund is in order.
if they wont refund either do the lawer thing or take it to your gunsmith and have it fixed.

it sounds like the ejector rim needs a trimming but without the gun it is anybodys guess.

imho get in tuch with blaser germany and tell them that this situation is being discussed on NE.com and AR:COM and else where.

regards peter

Well, I sure wouldn't want to be stuck with WR ammo. The several batches I shot up in .500/.416 were among the worst factory ammo I've ever fired.

Max rim thickness for the .500/.416 is .040". What do the rims of the other brass measure? If they're .040" or under, then the rim seat was probably cut too shallow. I got a call from a guy with a new Westley Richards droplock with the same problem. Since the .500/.416 also has a shoulder, the problem could also be there, but probably isn't. Either way, it should be a simple fix. If you can't get Blowzer to do it, send it to J. J. Perodeau in Enid, OK. He fixed a similar problem for a friend of mine.

Thanks folks. The gun's back at Blaser. They get one more chance. Thanks for the J.J. Perodeau reference.

400Nitro: where did you get the rim info? All my rims are .038"-.040" to the best of my measurement. WR are .037" about.
