Another Hollywood mistake we're not supposed to notice?
      #84333 - 21/08/07 07:38 AM

In Lost World(Jurassic Park 2) How in the world did the animal rights guy get the bullets out of the hunter's .600 rounds without a bullet puller? Somehow I doubt that a scientist going on a trip to study undocumented animals(regardless of species) will say to himself "Man, I might run into a hunter, better bring my trusty bullet puller"-sure, he could probably do the job with a couple pairs of pliers but there were no dig marks either.

I know, probably just one of those omissions like the 35 shot single action revolvers, but it's fun to talk about.

So true!

Welcome to Nitro Express.

How about describing yourself and lavish shooting habits. We all have them.

"How about describing yourself and lavish shooting habits. We all have them"

I should have done that before-About all I shoot are common shotguns and rifles(stuff with ammo available at most stores-12 ga, .22, 30-30, 30/06 and such), and reload for .45 auto and .357 magnum, but still interested in the "big stuff". Found the forum through an info search about the .700 NE, lurked for quite a while and after a hunting discussion in one of the other boards here decided to finally register.
As far as hunting goes, I hunt most "food" species in Iowa(deer, waterfowl, upland and a bit of turkey) and dream of an elk hunt-again more for the experience and the possibility of a lot of meat than for the trophy but a set of 4-5 foot antlers would look great on the wall. Cape buffalo would be great at some point but likely not for several years. I know, African hunts aren't getting any cheaper but it takes a lot more money than I have now to get there-but we all need dreams or we don't have anything to look forward to.
Thanks for the welcome, looks like a great board so far and not as many arguments as on some other boards I go to.

Welcome to Nitro Express Shackleton.
I enjoy it. Lot's of people that have the same eccentric interests as I. Lots of dreams, many realities, much more knowledge to share.
By the way, I am a Shackleton also.
Give me an email.
Thanks,

Yea.
And despite the weight of a decent double given the bullet weight one would expect the gun owner to notice if it's empty...

I recall an old "African" movie with, I think, Victor Mature in the lead role, where he fired a casual warning shot with a big-bore rifle (.375-ish) which amazingly had NO RECOIL... just like the blanks the props dept. had loaded it with.

More importantly, Which hunter hunts with only two rounds?
Talking about no recoil in movies,I just watched the opening scene of "Born Free" where the game ranger shoots a couple charging Lion with a double. good recoil from what looks like a 400J.

In Anaconda, JLO fires two shots from a bolt action rifle as though it was a semi-auto.Obviously the director had no idea about guns.

Speaking of Anaconda-when they free the boat after running aground, watch the waterfall in the background-it's going up. Apparently they just played the original scene in reverse instead of filming the boat going in reverse itself.

In "Jurassic Park 2", they should have written the story where it allowed Roland to use his .600 on the t-rex. I would have loved to have seen how they portrayed the effect of the big 900grn. solids on that animal. That part of the film just hurt me. I mean, I was ready to see some Taylor Knock-out Values in action. But Oh! Heck No!
It's funny how the film-makers seem to think that it's wrong to show animals getting shot, but yet, they insist on showing violent "overboard" human-on-human acts that children are too much tuned to now-a-days.

Have you noticed that lately gunshot wounds are accompanied by huge splots of blood on the wall? The wall might be 20 feet away, but the dripping puddle will be there for each and every shot fired. And then the detective walks up and plucks a bullet from each one, as if they were pasted there.

I love the Westerns where apart the lack of recoil by the shooter's gun, the projectile flings the 'bad guy' across the room when it hits
