The end of this story, where Col. Askins could not take the largest of the rams, is exactly the same as related by Hubert Thummler in "Wind in My Face", and for the same reason.

I guess it might be different today with the adjustable rate trophy fees, but maybe not.

Interesting read, but would be infuriating as the hunter.

too bad that the biggest billy didnt slide back in the line to the number three slot,,,,, I bet it must have crossed his mind that I may never get the chance again and put the cross hairs on the big boy and let'er rip.

Probably a wise way of thinking back in those days when hunting with certain unusual guests. And a taste of what he would encounter in the end.
