started work on a new different model
      #83193 - 28/07/07 11:55 AM

here is the first pic of a new knife i´m working on..
it´s going to be a Bas¤#¤d to grind...
its made out of 5.2mm thick Elmax (stainless steel made by uddeholm)
and is roughly 15" long with a blade 9½" - 10" long
what do you think of it?

Yup, it ain't gonna be easy on grinding wheels, that's for sure!

Looks like you make yours the same whay I make mine.

I use millsaws and chainsaw guidebars for knife stock mostly. Easy to anneal and grind and simple to differentially heat treat.

How do you heat treat your stainless?

i send all my heat treating away to a firm that specializes in heattreating.
i worked out a deal with the foreman, i send him all the blades i need done (one att a time)
that way he can sneak them into the atmosphericaly controlled oven without anyone noticeing.
and if he finds something he likes he gives me a yell and i either finish the blade for him or make a new one..

so in about 2 weeks i´m going to be starting to send him blades one a week...
i´ve got 8 or 9 to het done..
i mainly use A2, Sleipner, D2, RWL34, 12C27, damasteel and elmax (the last 4 are stainless)
