Crikey.....

Its gorgeous, noting the words 'conversion by' i take it this means it was a shotgun before it became a rifle???

However, how does eGun work? does one pay, then hope to get the gun, or is payment made via cheque or such?

Many thanks!

Ben

Hmm

'impossible to sell to private buyers' it seems to say?

'only to the collecting wbk or similar organisation'

Who are the WBK?

What kind of license, only a German one?

Thanks

Ben

The barrels look like Damascus barrels and this German word may confirm it - "Dammastläufe". Is that a correct translation?

I suspect Manton of Calcutta was simply the retailer in India. I doubt that they would have the means to actually "convert" anything. "Damsatlaeufe" means damascas barrels.

As far as I know, WBK means Waffenbesitzkarte (weapons possession card), in other words, a firearms ownership license. The weapon is clearly for sale to private buyers.

I have to admit that I'm a little leery of this guy. He has sold only one other item and he doesn't seem anxious to accomodate potential buyers.

On the other hand, he recommends that the buyer pick the rifle up, which would hardly be something a dishonest seller would suggest.

There is nothing in Germany in my experience which resembles the American three day inspection period, during which a weapon can be returned with no explanation.

Evidently EU regulations require something of this nature, but the sellers seem to be able to avoid this simply by specifying that this is a transaction between private individuals and all sales are final. The act of submitting a bid is taken to mean agreement to those conditions.

It is possible to make use of a Treuhand (a trustee or fiduciary) who would receive the funds, notify the seller that the funds are in his control, whereupon the seller would ship the weapon and upon notification by the buyer that he is satisfied with it, the Treuhand would release the funds to the seller. If the buyer is dissatisfied and returns the weapon, then his money is returned to him only when the seller acknowledges receipt of the weapon back. However, both parties must agree to this arrangement in advance.

One of our German or Austrian collegues may be able to shed more light on this. I have bought several items on eGun with no difficulty, by having them delivered to my German gun maker, which obivates the need for a license and he can take care of the shipping formalities.

Truth is.....

This gun looks like a dream come true for me, i have the cash and i am desperate for a bp era double rifle, the trouble is very simply i dont have the money to LOSE, maybe if Wilbur Smith is on here he could buy it,taking the risk, and tell us all how much we missed.......?

I guess there is a way to tell; make the buy now bid, telling the guy you'll meet him and pay him,or send a friend to meet him and pay him. Trouble is they must have a German license just as you need an Italian one for Italy or a UK one for back home.

Hey but this auction is bid and pay, THEN collect, how safe can this be i wonder? If it seems too good to be true......

I have 2 good friends away from here in Bavaria at the moment,(their home town is there) and i could do something about it i suppose, however first the guy would have to agree to this, and second they dont have a license either...

I wasnt aware that even Germany had the obsolete guns on ticket, thought it was a world wide thing to have old stuff off ticket......?

Ben
If he's in Germany, of course he's going to want to see a German Licence before he hands over a gun.

Like you in the UK, your not going to hand over a gun to someone without a licence.

If you want it exported to England, fid a dealer in Germany.

eGuns is like Ebay.

If you don't want to take the risk, then don't bid.

If you haven't got the money to lose, buy in the UK
at Auction or from a gun shop.

Hello Nigel

Yep, which i wrote too........

Main point was,in the UK that wouldnt need a license,(unless sold with loaded ammo and/or with intention of use)secondary point......bank transfer.

But all points are moot until i bite,or one of us bites.

I do not need to lose my double rifle budget.

Nigel i wish to pm you regarding a gun in Oz.

Ben

Yes Nigel i gathered that.

The thing is on ebay, apart from some high class watches and shady sellers, when the thing is expensive its typical to close the bid,and then do the rest by phone and a meeting too.

Arent you a little interested in this weapon too? Is that not about 1/3 of its true retail price anyway?

UK is one of my options, the easiest, however i wont close my eyes to other options unless i have to.

Though i generally aim to buy from some form of dealer.

No, not interested at all. I don't collect Bore Guns
but buy any that come along for someone else.

Too many other good guns on the market for
me to buy ATM to worry about something in Germany.

If you can contact the seller, ask him to recommend an English speaking gunsmith in the area, who can examine the gun and accept the transfer on your behalf. Of course you would need to establish his bona fides, but that shouldn't be too difficult. I can't tell from his Postleitezahl (ZIP code) where he's located, but a little research on the web should reveal that.

I would recommend mine, but (1) he doesn't speak English, and (2) he's not in the same area.

Thanks xausa

Well i wish to straighten the payment thing out a bit,

Transfer is risky.

Im not worried about having the gun checked, im worried about how i can get a smith there to hold it and so on.

I had best look online,im sure they would handle such a simple job for a few hundred e's

Nigel;

Transfer means the money is sent, though if the item/service is not received there is no realistic way of proving this, once that money leaves your bank you only have proof it went to 'John Smith' but even if you have the bank state what its being sent for, you cannot prove for example that you did not receive the item.

'Yes he/she received said item, guess he/she must have hidden it or sold it on, he/she is lying' is the response that is naturally given.

In my line of work, both past and present, i have come across this, ebay is perhaps the worst example.....hence the paypal idea, which also hardly works......

Ben

I disagree.

I send thousands of $ all over the world
to various people / companies, including
using PAYPAL (I had to set it up to buy
some stuff from a person in the US).

Never had a problem.

Had problems with paypal, shows you what the UK is like today.

Transfer-me personally no, some clients and friends yes.

I rarely deal with Germans...they don`t respond e-mails...they are very little cooperative...It must have something to do with the last war we had..??.

THE only business in Germany where I have experienced 110% service...110% politeness is Reimer Johanessen in Neumünster...
OH....I forgot...Dieter Horneber....best brass one can get, 100% service...
