singleshot action for gauge calibers

I wonder if one should make a 10 bore singleshot rifle, which action could be used?

The Greener GP martini action shotgun in 12 gauge is what I have.
Very strong action.
Brass and ammo is more readily available for the 12 bore.

Alan,
What brand of brass cases are you using, I have found a maker in the U.S that will make them according to your chamber cast and to what bullet diameter you are using, therefore no sizing needed. Does custom headstamps as well.
My bore gun, also built on a GP Greener should be "home" this coming week, can't wait to get started with a load development program.

I bought my brass through Dave Gullo at Buffalo Arms in the US.
The brand is Magtech.
I would be interested to find out where you are getting your custom brass from.

I have done business with Dave since he started his business...Good guy for sure

I will buy my brass from "Rocky Mountain Cartridge" who will make up my 10 Bore 3.25" for my also upcomming Manton & Co 10bore. I asked around here friday from people who are in business with doublerifles as pro, they all vouched 100% for their brass. I spoke with Paul Roberts, who made up a
.775Rigby doublerifle in the midt 90´s new spoke only well of RMC.
RMC will charge me $85 for 10 pcs of 10bore 3.25", which I don`t think are bad.
Dieter Horneber from germany will next year make brass for the old gauge calibers, starting with the 4bore....later the others

I can only say Dieter Horneber makes the best...my.333 Jeffery Rimless brass are pure gold...hahaha.

www.trackofthewolf.com also has 12 and other bore brass.

RMC (Rocky Mountain Cartridge) is where I will be getting it from, cost $45-00 US for 10 cases, made to your dimensions as per chamber cast, and your own headstamp if you wish, he also cuts it to the length of your chamber.

I‘ll also vouch for RMC brass. Absolutely outstanding. It’s turned brass, but at bore gun pressures the strength is not an issue. It does use a lot of material though, and metal prices are through the roof in the last 2 years. I’m impressed he’s kept his prices as low as they are for a custom product. When you consider that it is made for your chamber and will virtually never wear out it is a steal.

Brass for my papercase 10 bore 2 5/8 was surprisingly an off the shelf item and arrived in a few days. Being as thick as a normal paper shell, they’ll never need resizing.

I ordered 30 cases when I got my gun and have lost track of how many roundballs they’ve launched. For my thin brass 4 he made the first .8” of the case .0004” thick (to hold the bullet), then it increased to .03” thick and greater. Same result, no resizing needed. Plus, he has the measurements from my cast on file if I ever do want more.

450, please make a post when you receive your Greener. I recently acquired one those with a similar project in mind for this winter, and would love to hear your advice and ideas. I'd love to see and hear any detailsyou have the time to share too Alan! Thanks.

Could you have meant 0.004" thick (pesky decimals!)? Even then, that's pretty thin. Take care, Tom

Bertram Bullets of Seymour Victoria makes 12 bore brass cases and they are about $2.20 each. Ihave used them with great success. Putting a very light crimpon them to hold the slugs in is still causing me problems. Ihave loaded up to 150 grains of black powder for good accuracy in my 12 bore slugmaster. His details are on the web.

Way to go four five ough (Wayne). I used up to 7 drams in my double 12 with 24" (or maybe 26"??) tubes with round balls. The increase in recoil was memorable and although accuracy was supurb, the recoil was a bit too much in the light gun. I found that by using 4756 and 7625, I could match the speed and accuracy with hardly more recoil than standard slug loads, very easy to shoot.
; Sorry about the link to track. I just checked and bore brass is no longer listed, that I could find, anyway. I've sent an e-mail requesting confirmation on stock of that item.
: I should think that those who can get Hodgdon's Longshot powder, should try it out. Hodgdon's data lists 1-1/4 ounce shot loads to be pushed close to 1,600fps at failry low pressure of around 8,000psi. If that is so, then 1,600fps is easily available to us using solid round balls. One need only adjust the wad column to compensate for proper crimp, whatever one is using.
: NOTE - As with any handloading of ammunition, one must start low and 'develop' ones own data as to how the pressure is developed and handled by one's own firearm. Use of someone else's data without first 'developing' up to it, may not the a safe way to load. Be careful out there.
