Good story.

I wonder what is left of the jungle and the game since it has been a closed country for so long.

When I crossed over the border into Burma from Thailand near Chang Rai in the far North in the border town's market was numerous stalls selling skins and body parts of various species. Lots of leopard. The stall holders didn't allow me to videotape the stalls, but I did from a distance, zooming in.

So the leopard and other species, tigers were not evident but who knows what is below the table, are still coming from somewhere.

It seems the rainforests of Burma are still with us.
I recall reading of areas declared as "uninhabitable by humans beings" being earmarked as wildlife parks, as far back as the building of the "Burma Road".

Nick,

The problem used to be of a totally different kind. A friend was in Northern Burma and had a battle going on on the opposite hill between Government and Rebel forces. As you would be aware Northern Burma was the location of some 16 or more rebel armies and warlords. However it seems that the fighting and strife has reduced in recent years, unless I am wrong.

Sometimes strife, while a break down in law and order, also stiffles development and allows nature to persevere a bit longer.

Thailand for example seems almost completely denunded of wildlife at least the parts and areas I saw. Probably deer and other species lurking in the forests and mountains still in small numbers.
