who is the worst shot you have seen or heard of?

Rolling start with a sambar stag and a good one at that came down a mountain track well in front of the hounds to a mate that had taken up a position on the track and stopped 40 yards broadside to him standing in fetlok high grasses and while looking back up towards the voicing hounds the mate opened up,first shot the deer went down as it shit itself with the bang and simply lost its footing on the hillside and then in its panic struggled to get back up,while doing so the mate emptied his rifle towards the deer AND MISSED EVERY TIME the deer then took off,i turned up with some dogs out of the truck and followed its marks for about a mile and it jumped a big hung up log across the track instead of going under it(usually done by sambar) and not one frigging skerrick of blood......nothing! The hounds couldnt pull it in on release either as they would do to a wounded deer.Now this deer was a bloody big stag as witnessed and also by its hoof size in the soft ground too and none of us there that day can believe how someone can miss such a great piece of meat firstly standing and then rattling around on the ground at 40 yards, and i reckon it was a case of the worst bloody shot/shots i have got in my memory so i`m sure you African pro`s can come up with some tales of ordinary misses with a selection from your memories.

On a hunting video, I've seen a large calibre rifle bounce the bullet on the ground about half way to the buffalo and then strike it on the shoulder.

My mate Mick! Snuck up on a sleeping pig which was under a cut away on the creek bank. There was a mound of dirt in front of it. He got to about 5 meters from it and promptly placed his bullet into the mound of dirt.:D

i also remember a fella from Italy that saw a pig from his m/bike so in his panic he jumped off and took a rest from the seat and shot the instrument cluster off with his 308

I once managed to push a small bunch of Elk across an opening where my partner (new to the Game) was standing behind a chest high log. At 40 yards he took 5 shots and never a hit. In fact all 5 cartridges still contained bullets. He had cycled the whole lot without pulling the trigger and never realized there was not a loud noise.

My uncle guided a German to a big kudu and the Herr managed to hit the young kudu standing next to it in the hip! Luckily it was a bachelor group and it also had decent horns....
My worst shot? Missed a couple bushbuck (1 at 15 yards!)....they are my current nemesis!

The worst shot I ever saw was on a promotional video for a ranch hunting Mule deer in Montana or Wyoming. They seemed to film a number of their hunters shooting the larger animals and used it for a promo. This one fellow shot a massive buck in the hind quarters With the PH yelling at him shhot the darn thing. The hunter then gut shot it, missed several times as the animal suffered. In the end he had to put several more very missplaced shots on the beast to kill it. It was sickening to watch and needless to say we did not even consider booking with that fellow. Big Buck or not I could not imagine why anyone in their right mind would use that sort of footage in their promotional video.

When I was just out of High School...1965...my buddy, Dave, wanted to go deer hunting but didn't have a rifle. I borrowed a "smelly" Enfield from another friend for Dave, and we took out for a place I knew along the Walker River.

We were there just at sunrise and spotted a little fork mule deer just below a big brushy area on a small plateau...about 60 yards away.

Dave opened up and emptied the entire magazine...reloaded and emptied it again.

Somewhere through all this he had managed to gut shoot that magnificent stag, all 75 pounds of him...dripping wet.

Well, two magazines gone = one box of ammo out the tube, and Dave looked at me. I told him "Keep your fu..ing hands off my rifle. I only brought one box, too!"

Dave was a burley, if not too bright, guy who often took rather direct approaches to whatever endeavor was at hand. He dropped the Enfield and went into the thicket after the gut shot "Bambi".

I sat down on the nearest soft rock and listened to the battle royal that ensued...dust flying and limbs crackling for what seemed an eternity. In all actuality it was all of a minute or so.

Then I heard a blood curdling "Godamsunofbch!..whamp...thud..."...then silence...

I waited long enough to eat my candy bar, all properly melted in my warming pocket, then ventured into the thicket...

There was a small clearing dead center in the thicket where I found Dave flat on his back, out cold, two hoof prints on his shirt just below the right rib cage, arms straight out at his sides as if he was trying to be a cross...deer hair in each hand.

The poor little buck was standing at the edge of the brush, rumpled all to hell and panting. I promptly dispatched the poor fella with a neck shot at the base of the head so as to not ruin any more meat than Dave already had.

This shot woke Dave, and I told him he had gotten his first deer...heaping praise on him...full of barbs, however.

When deer season came around the next year, Dave asked to borrow the same rifle he had been so successful with the year before. We headed back up the Walker to the scene of the previous crime.

This year I was ready for Dave...I handed him the same "smelly" Enfield, TWO boxes of ammo...then fixed a BAYONET to the rifle!

Dave to this day has never seen any humor in the gesture...

On my first ever outback goat hunting trip.

A friend and the same friend

-was shooting at an angora feral goat. The ones behind it kept falling over. I said I'm shooting it if you aren't and he replied, I am shooting at it.

- same friend saw a donkey far out. Shot at its chest and hit it in the nuts.

- shot another billy in the nuts when aiming for the chest

Must have had a thing for castrating his game.

I never go hunting with anyone until I find out whether he knows one end of the rifle to the other. I like to have a couple of range sessions and gauge his ability, or lack of, to hit what he aims at. If your trust in your hunting buddy is lacking, you might as well go it alone.

Probably myself,

My first kill(except for a lot of birds with my pellet and a couple of hare's with my dad's shotgun)was blesbuck when I was about 10 years old.It was standing about 25meters looking straight at me and my late father told me to hit right between the eyes.I picked up the rifle and let it go but the blesbuck was stil staring at me.After a couple of seconds it trotted of in disgust and looked at my dad with a "what do i do now" look in my eyes.He just laughed and said go get it.I stalked it the best I thought and took a second shot also at the head not realizing the lesson my dad was trying to teach me.Lucky this time it entered just above the eyes and it dropped like a sack of shit.I was in my sweventh heaven.For the fifteen years after that up to now I learned a couple of lessen and luckily that shooting is getting better all the time.
But I think there is some worse than me.

Don't feel too bad...we all have our days.

In 2002, while hunting with Clement Victor, My hunting companion was touting my shooting abilities to everyone within earshot...that was all it took to jinx me for the entire hunt.

By the last day, I was convinced that all the game wore body armor, and I had brought blanks.

I managed to take several nice trophys that walked into the path of my bullets.

q, only problem with that is that you have to break in another hunting partner. I guess having a good hunting partner is like finding a good woman, once you figure the common interest and trust is there you are reluctant to change anything. I'd just tell my partner to shut the hell up and quit jinxing me.

I know one fu....ng asshole who came to me and told that HE did shoot one running moose from 250 meters dist and hit the front hoof He also told me of one poor moose he shot from behind straight in the asshole of 30 meters dist...!!!!!! I was wery angry on him and was close to kick hes ass between hes shoulders, I told him that assholes like you spoil the reputation of hunters.

Elias, there's nothing you can do about assholes like that. All you can do is find out where he is and then go the opposite end of the country to keep from putting your front sight on him. Guys like him deserve to have their guns confiscated because of stupidity.

Well, I don't know any really terrible shooters, but Teddy Roosevelt sure had a hard go of it in Africa. I realize it was a different time and ethics may have changed a bit over the years, but... Good Grief!!!

Hemingway wasn't overly impressive either but the worst were some of the early elephan hunters (using 4 bore muzzle loaders etc). I've got a number of books I simply can't read because of the disrespect for the animals hunted.

Teddy had a tough time in the American West too. But, to his credit he may have been the only gun writer who ever described his shooting in a completely truthfull way! His eye sight was bad, that was his biggest problem with being a good shooter.

The worst shooting in the world is in Hollywood movies. The only shots they make are the impossibly difficult ones. most of them can't hit a bound and gagged man tied to a chair in a small room with three magazines full of 9mm from an UZI on full auto.
