BRNO Mauser rifles

I recently purchased a BRNO rifle in 8X57 with a full length carbine (20.5" barrel)stock and a "butterknife" bolt handle which I gather is either a Model 21H or 22F. In any case, it has a safety which I am not sure is original with the rifle. It protrudes straight out to the left in the "fire" position, and straight up in the "safe" position. Does anyone have any experience with either of these models?

It is not the same as the safety on the ZG-47, which was made at roughly the same time. That safety works fore and aft like an early Sako safety.

Now, such old rifle “best before date” is long gone so kindly send it off to me straight away for disposal

The full stock means that you got a "22" "21" is normal stock length.

When is your rifle made (two digits stamped on left side of the front receiver ring), has it milled in dovetails for scope mounts ?

You own a 22F. Post a pic but your safety sounds stock. The number 21 represents the rifle version, and the 22 is the carbine. H stands for half stock, and F for full stock. Does your rifle have double set triggers?

Someone (probably the seller) obliterated the "best before" date, so I won't be able to comply with your generous suggestion. I will attempt to attach photos. The rifle resides with my FFL dealer at present, so I haven't had it in my hands yet.

Does anyone know of a definitive work (book or article) about BRNO sporting rifles? I suddenly have come into possession of four of them, two 21H's and two 22F's, and am looking at more. A collection is evidently being broken up.

One, interestingly enough, is marked Waffenwerk Brunn and date stamped 42, so it looks as though the Germans operating the Czech factory were still putting out consumer goods in the midst of WWII.

I am thoroughly frustrated at trying to post pictures. Everything I have tried to post has been rejected as being too large. I have not had trouble posting pictures on the Frapper map site, however.

You need to put the pictures up in a hosting site such as photobucket. Google them and follow directions on how to put in your pics. It is free.
