limbsaver / decelerator questions
      #77934 - 03/05/07 08:45 PM

I shot some test loads in my new 45-70 guide gun yesterday. I was thinking about an aftermarket butt pad anyway, now I'm convinced I should get one.
I'm looking for input on limbsaver and decelerator pads.
Are they comparable as far as reducing felt recoil?
I saw on some posts here that pre-fit decelerators could use some fitting anyway.
Do the pre-fit limbsavers fit well?
I'm leaning toward a limbsaver just because I've already found a pre-fit locally.
Who prefers which and why?
Thanks,
Karluk

Limbsavers.

Tame any guns recoil.

By the way, IF you need to grind a Limbsaver,
put the pad in the freezer for 1/2 an hour first
to make it harder (they are very soft) and then
grind it.

It helps get a nice smooth finish.

I have no experience with the limbsaver pads, but have decelerators on two of my rifles. They do work, and help with the recoil, but because they're soft, are prone to tears.

I have the limbsavers on two single shots ( 375 and Lott ) and a double rifle as well .. Well worth the money ..

I thought of putting the red decelerator pad on my RSM .458Lott, but found that it would probably void the warranty on my stock. I wanted it for the look and nothing else. The Ruger Lott does not kick enough with full loads to constitute a different pad than the stock-black one. It's really not bad with recoil for me to be at all concerned about in the slightest. Others may have a different opinion on this though.

Just put a pre-fit Limbsaver on a No 1 405. It's a decent though not perfect fit.
My shoulder thinks it's a big improvement over the factory brick.
