It just seems logical to me, but is that hole in the head an aiming point on elephant?

It appears there is bullet hole right at the top of that hole...besides the topper.

I'm no expert, but that looks like an insurance shot to the top of the head, after the ele had fallen over.

The hole on top of the head is a obvious insurance shot.

What I am talking about is the natural cavity. There appears to be a hole just right of center at the top of the cavity.

Where is the brain in relationship to this cavity, above it?

For this elephant at this angle the shot should pass through the bottom right of the Y of the bone ridge to the left of the figure 8 openng (looks like a figure 8 on its side.)

This will have the bullet passing just a bit above the zygomatic arch and so traveling through lower portion of the brain from right front of the brain to left rear.
