Very nice - like the barrel band swivel, aperature and slim front barrel-band sight.
; I do prefer darker stain on the wood, though it is a nice piece of tree, that's for sure.

Very nice looking rifle!
I too prefer darker stain but the wood has nice figure,,, is that Tiger Maple?

Mehul...you said enjoy the pictures, when I opened the link, I only saw one photograph.... were there more?

I also have a CD with a huge number of pictures but shall have to ask Dave for his permission to post them here once he returns from the NRA Convention.

That is Paradox Walnut. The wood was specified by the client. Dave is planning to import a selection of wood from Turkey for his own use - as a matter of fact, the wood may have reached here already.

Lovely rifle. However I wouldn't want a peep sight like that on a .505. JMO.

Beautiful rifle!
But I have to think that bolt handle is going to be known as "the knuckle breaker".
Once saw a 1917 in 450 Ackley that required the handle be moved way forward so the PH owner wouldn't have his trigger finger pounded.

'Paradox' wood - I've been in the gun trade for along time and never heard of it. Sounds like someone's own naming to sound 'special'. It's already good looking, just look at it.
: It could be Engish, French, Turkish or California English/Claro cross. Using the word Paradox suggests something English so maybe that's why he named it that.

I'll certainly ask Dave on Monday when he would be back from St Louis. I don't think he would mind at all but I'd just like to ask him before I post any pictures from the CD.

I know nothing about wood other than what I read, but then, I am the kind of guy who appreciates beautiful women without thinking about anything other than how beautiful they are.

Nitro,

What's the issue with a Lyman 48 sight? I have one just like it on my P-14 Enfield .505 and have had nothing but success with it. It is lightning fast and much easier to use than open sights in my opinion. Of course, I use it without the screw in insert, so I can see all out-of-doors through it.

The fact that I grew up shooting an M1 Garand in competition, then Model 70 Winchesters with receiver sights, may have contributed to my predeliction for them, but most authorities agree that they are appropriate for heavy rifles, provided they are located far enough from the shooter's eye, unlike the old fashioned tang sights, which could be a real threat.

I agree with xusa on the sight question. Have 'em and use them quite a bit. Sights are like everything else, if it works for you, fine. If you prefer something else, it is easy to switch. Dave

Incidentally, I learned from Dave that he is the Editor of Gunmaker, the journal of the ACGG. I've been going over the copy that he sent me from St Louis which features the Farquharson action. This is the first issue of this magazine that I've seen and it is absolutely beautiful. Let me check if we could get some of the pictures electronicaly so that they could be posted here.

I can't understand why the original bolt handle wan't replaced, and I can't imagine ordering a 505 Gibbs with a steel buttplate rather than a solid rubber recoil pad......

I have to agree with AD ---- that steel butt plate might not be too kind to your shoulder. Beautiful rifle, I just want to put on my sissy pad before I shoot it!!

ej: Most people simply cut and re-weld the original bottom-metal, and order a long front screw from Brownells (or make that yourself, too).

I have successfully straightened two myself without adult supervision, so it can't be that hard!

That said, the photo appears to show a release mechanism in the guard bow, so it's evidently a replacement.

Regarding Paradox wood...Paul and Sharon Dressel's wood site has some paradox listed and say that it is another type of Bastogne. Charles
