A friend of mine,a judge of the Sind High Court,has a passion for collecting antique weapons.Because of his position he has access to various police armories all over the country.Here one will find all sorts of weapons,new and old,mostly confiscated from people in villages or far flung areas.He recently bought a shotgun,dirt cheap I may add, which is a mauser with a bolt action in 12 gauge.Barrel is about 28 inches chambered for2 and3/4inches full choked.Capacity,one in magazine and one in chamber thus
it is a two shot.The barrel is stamped with the word NITRO and GERMANY on the reciever.I have never seen anything like this before i.e.a bolt action shotgun,but then my experiance in weapons is limited.Any body knows what this is and does it have any value?The condition of the weapon is fairly good.

I have seen SMLE .303s converted to both .410 magazine shotguns and also I think a 12g shotgun. May have been a single shot.

I believe Mauser made a Bolt Action shotgun.
You'll need to check the Mauser books.

I have one of the Mauser shotgun you refer to, my father purchased it for me some 50 years ago it's still in my cabinet. Quite well made actually, though the stock was rather plain and I restocked it. Mine is in 16 guage, i've seen several 12s but never a 20, the12s considered rather risky although i've never seen or heard on one coming apart. This is due to the fact that in the 12 the action locking lug recesses are machined out to allow the 12 to be chambered, in the 16 I believe some recess still remains. The 12 uses the third back lug in the lockup and the safety lug, normally hidden under the extractor when the action is open. I stay away from any "magnum" loads and have never had a problem. --- John 303

Please do a web search for Mauser GEHA shotguns (I have no idea what GEHA stands for and would appreciate any information from the experts on the forums) on Gunbroker or Guns International. You would find more than a few on sale. They are budget priced over jere as well.

I really don't understand the idea of a bolt action shotgun like that, unless it was impossible to get anything else as a shotgun.
Unless it was to shoot slugs or brenneckes from in places where there is a "deer shotgun only season" and slugs were allowed.

I did some research on this weapon and the results are as folows:
After WWI the peace treaty forced on Germany curtailed much of the military arms production.They were allowed to make sporting arms which they did.They had a large quantity of M98 Mauser rifles which they converted to shotguns by removing the rifle bbl.collar and locking shoulders in the reciever ring were bored out from the front and a shotgun bbl.fitted.Front of the bolt was bored and a special bolt head fitted.Various other changes made and the result was a handy,lightweight and low cost bolt action repeating shotgun.Most of the guns were of Geha brand,like one shown in picture above,also Geco,a brand name of Gustav Genschow & co.and another brand is the Remo.

As in my previous post, I like mine and it goes well with my other Mauser rifles, anyone who likes the Mauser 98 action, should have one in their collection. --- John303
