Here is the piece of wood I'm going with for my 600ok. Not bad I'm thinking

That will make one nice looking stock. Are you doing the work yourself or having it done?

Not myself----this is being built by our good friend Ed Plummer @ AHR. He e-mailed me the pics yesterday and asked if I was interested in this particular blank. I jumped on it. The grain is nice & straight in the wrist---good for a 600ok.

Joe

I knew you were having Ed make it. Pardon the brain fart. The 600 OK is fun to shoot. A real big boy blaster. Ed did a fine job on mine. It turned out great, the muzzle brake does wonders to the hotter loads.

Yea I know how it goes. I'm going ring this guy out well. I'll probably settle on a load around 2100 fps w/ a 900grn. I'll be interested in the diffence in my 600JDJ & this. 2 different guns & stocks. It'll be fun

Very nice blank. What kind of finish are you going to do?

I believe Ed uses a traditional oil finish on these and that's what I want as well.

Ed @ AHR says my 600 should be done next week. I am really looking forward to ringing it out. Bigdog, what loads do you use in yours? I'm looking at trying RL-19, H4350, 7828SSC, and Varget. I would like to use Varget to try to get to approx. 2100 fps. It's been my experience with the 600 JDJ that smaller doses of faster powder, within reason, reduce recoil and seem to be more consistant than heavier doses of slower powders. Has anyone else loaded for this round?

It's English walnut. Looks to have good straight grain through the wrist area, which it will need, and good figure elsewhere. Ed said he test fired the rifle yesterday and hopes to have pictures for me early next week. Really looking forward to seeing & shooting it.

I had the good fortune to shoot one of these at the recent Big Game Rifle Match at Lodi WI earlier this year .I own and shoot a 470 double and a 500 Jeffery ,The 600 OK is a great gun to shoot and with the muzzel break on the recoil is not much more than my rifles .I dont think I would like to shoot those 900gr solids without it.The owner of this particular rifle has taken a couple of elephants with his rifle,he just loves shooting it.

good shooting
