Rigby-style peep sight
      #74952 - 29/03/07 01:49 PM

hi, i am wondering where to look for information on the Rigby-style peep sights that you see on some of the old mausers.
i would really like an introduction to the sight, how well they worked, did they suit a particular front sight better than others if used for target shooting, were they any good for target performance etc

are there any books on mausers that would cover this? an article on peep sights through the ages in a magazine perhaps?

i have had a read of the posts in the jeffrey 6.5 about that sight - is it a clone of the rigby in how it works?

as you can guess i am not knowledgeable about rifles and gear. this is just seeing something that i saw, liked and want to know more about.

lastly, could one be put on any currently offered guns (by the large manufaturers) or have sights like this had there day through current design and construction methods.

thanks ewan

Ewan

Regarding your last question, early Brno ZKK 600/601/602 had a really neat integral pop up rear peep sight as well as a fold-up conventional rear sight.

Pre '68 Brno ZKK's had a lock screw and engraved reference marks on the peep's windage, later ZKK's had dropped the screw... then the rear peep was dropped altogether as a cost save by the 1990's.

I think they are a really great feature that CZ should reintroduce!

Cheers

TM

A side view of my Rigby. Sorry for the low quality picture.
